Colin Gray,  the new Earl of Egremoor has been part of a secret club for years.  They have been helping find missing people.  Sometimes those people didn't want to be found.  There is a person writing pamphlets ridiculing the club and his alter ego in particular.  With the death of his father, he needs to finish the club and make a proposal.  
Lady Emily Vale is the eldest of happy family of sisters, one of whom is missing.  She has been more or less betrothed since birth to a man who was her best friend as a child but who has avoided her for years.  
This is a lovely story where both our protagonists have a very firm opinion about life,  but still have very much to learn about truth.  They have both lived with secret personalities doing what they thought was right.  Our hero is not quite the typical Lord he is believed to be.  Our heroine has put herself so far outside the normal sphere of her rank in life so that she can try to affect the politics of the time.  
They set off separately on a mission that turns into a joint one of discovery and lots of danger.  
An intriguing and exciting historical romance with more than the usual share of adventure.  
This is part of a series that can each be read as a stand alone.  I think I know the protagonists of the next book and cant wait to read it.  A thoroughly enjoyable story I loved it.
