A Dangerous Pursuit (Regency Spies & Secrets #1) by Laura Beers. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

An heiress. A spy. And a love worth fighting for.

Welcome to book 1 in the exciting new series Regency Spies & Secrets from bestselling author Laura Beers.

Miss Madalene Dowding was devastated when her mother died, leaving her all alone. To honor her mother's legacy, she decides to use part of her fortune to open an orphanage. When a teacher at the orphanage goes missing, Madalene takes it upon herself to start looking for her, even if it means taking her deep into the unsavory parts of London.

Baldwin Radcliff, the Marquess of Hawthorne, is working on his last case as an agent of the Crown, since he is about to retire and take up his seat in the House of Lords. He is tasked with finding a French spy that is in league with a growing group of radicals. As he searches for the enemy, he discovers a meddling heiress that keeps stumbling in at the most inopportune times, making him wonder if she is perhaps the spy he has been sent to find.

Despite mutual dislike, Baldwin agrees to help Madalene, but only if she stays far away from the investigation. A promise that Madalene has no intention of keeping. Will headstrong Madalene and duty-driven Baldwin be able to work together, especially since so much is at stake?

Will Baldwin choose between saving the Crown or saving an obstinate woman that he has unwittingly fallen in love with?

Miss Madalene Dowding is an heiress who would much rather spend her time at the orphanage she has opened than in society.  She is still mourning the death of her mother and doesn't like all the matchmaking mama's trying to find a rich bride for their sons.
Baldwin Radcliffe, the Marquess of Hawthorne is an agent for the Crown and has just returned from three years undercover in France. Not being able to tell his family where he has been causes hurt feelings.  Even though he is home he is still leading a double life.
This is an interesting historical romance filled with danger and intrigue.  Our heroine is no spoiled miss just spending her money.  She is brave and loyal and more than able to take care of herself and those she loves.
This is the first book of a series that I will definitely be reading more of.
Great fun.

Add To

When Lyleia Naiad was head-hunted by Brimstone, Inc., for her job as Executive Assistant to a high-powered billionaire demigod, she was given one directive—do NOT fall in love with Castor Dioskouri. Doesn’t matter if he’s the son of Zeus and can electrify a room with a single glance. As an ex-nymph, she possesses a unique ability—a gift from the goddesses to protect nymphs from the randy gods—to resist her boss's charms.

Or so she thought.

He insists she accompany him to an alpha wolf shifter mating ceremony, an event where the pheromones fly, and so do clothes...and inhibitions.

Goddesses save her, because Castor has stolen into Lyleia’s heart, and she’s not so sure she can hold out much longer...

This novella was previously self-published but has undergone a complete re-edit. Scenes were added, things were changed, but the kissing still remains!

Lyleia Naiad is a water nymph who lost her spring, and now is estranged from the others of her kind. Now she works as an executive assistant for the Demigod Castor Dioskouri . He is the son of Zeus and runs a multi billion dollar company.
This is a fun paranormal romance filled with fabulous characters and steamy scenes.  There is a nasty magical battle and a wild wedding.
This is the first book in two different series.  If the rest are as much fun we are in for a good ride.
Great fun.

My Lady Marzipan (Rare Confectionery #3) by Sydney Jane Baily . Historical Romance Review.

Add To

Step into Rare Confectionery on New Bond Street, where three talented sisters create treats as delectable to the tongue as they are appealing to the eye. One taste is all it takes to be captivated...

Charlotte hasn't had anything go wrong in her blissful existence as a confectioner. Always smiling, she loves working with her sisters, and she adores her customers. Moreover, she holds a secret in her heart.

The Viscount Jeffcoat watches the joy disappear from the eyes of the most appealing woman he knows, as sweet as her marzipan creations. Desperately trying to right whatever wrong she is facing, he hopes to woo and win her, only to discover the unthinkable.

When it seems all she has ever cherished will be lost—and by her own carelessness—Charlotte turns to the one man who has promised her nothing while giving her everything. Can she and Lord Jeffcoat overcome betrayal and ruin to build a life of love and laughter?

Miss Charlotte Rare-Foure makes the Marzipan confection at the family's shop in New Bond Street.  With her sisters' recent marriages more of the work has been on her shoulders. Everything is going well and Charlotte finds someone to help out.  When things start to spin out of control there is one person who she can think of to help her.
Charles,  Viscount Jeffcoat has known the Rare-Foure family since his friend married the eldest daughter, and has always seen Charlotte as flighty and immature. He soon learns there is much more to her than he believes.
The daughter of a shopkeeper is maybe not refined enough for a serious minded Viscount and barrister,  but her sparkling,  happy personality can't help but draw everyone to her.
This is a fast paced sweet historical story that will be better if you have read the previous books in the series,  but still enjoyable on it's own.
Really good fun.

Sydney Jane Baily completed her first novel at the tender age of 17. Thankfully, that manuscript currently resides in an undisclosed secure location. While writing historical romance, she firmly believes in crafting happily-ever-after stories for an already challenging world. Born and raised in California, she currently resides in New England with her family—human, feline, and canine.

The characters in this lovely historical romance change a lot over the course of the book.  Even bad experiences help people grow.
An emotional story.
I loved it.

Anya O’Cahan awakes half drowned in a tiny chapel on a deserted isle with none other than Fairhair, the man with the devil’s heart, the vile brother of the beast who killed her Da. Angus Og MacDonald,  Lord of Islay has been host to Robert the Bruce for a while now but after a bad result in battle,  has fallen out of favour. A trip with the Bruce to Ireland is just going to make matters worse. At this rate he'll never get the title he wants so badly.
Anya O'Cahan is the ward of a powerful man who is allied with the English King. He has arranged her betrothal.  That means she needs to make the most of the freedom she still has. Our heroine loves nothing more than sketching anything she finds interesting.
Family loyalty is not always guaranteed.  Nor is a flag of parley always respected.
An action packed historical romance with lots of twists and turns,  and fabulous characters.
Great fun.

Lord Satyr (Lords of the Masquerade #2) by Jade Lee. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Lord Satyr

Lord Sayres has a reputation for frivolity when what he wants is something substantial. He’s looking for a business endeavor free from his past entanglements. Something fresh and completely new for a world that has seen and done everything.

Lady Gwen

Masquerades are not Lady Gwen’s typical entertainment. She’s a bluestocking with a love of botany. When her husband-hunting plans go awry, she amuses herself by analyzing the flowers with a man who looks as depressed as she feels. When they stumble upon a business idea, she’s torn between clinging to the life she’s always known and joining forces with a known flirt. Could their unlikely partnership solve both their problems?

A Special Magic

Everything hinges on presenting their product in the most intriguing way and what better plan than to make Gwen society’s newest darling? Where she leads, everyone else will follow. But how can an awkward bluestocking transform into a beauty?

It requires a special kind of magic from a lord who knows how to bring out the best in a woman. And all it will cost is his heart.

Lord Jackson Sayres has been working for an influential woman for ten years.  She has taught him a lot,  but now he wants to follow his own dreams and make his own fortune.  There is nothing more dangerous than a woman scorned.
Lady Gwen Rees has been declared a spinster by no less than her mother. At twenty eight she has put all thoughts of marriage behind her.  She's happy with that, because botany is much more interesting than men.
This is a fabulous historical romance with very unusual and fascinating characters.  It will make you realise, if you want something badly enough you can make it happen.
This is part of a series,  but easily read on it's own.  I will definitely be reading the rest.
Great fun.

The first one, 50 WAYS TO RUIN A RAKE, is an awesome tale of love and laughter.
