Her Reluctant Highlander Husband (Clan MacKinlay #2) by Allison B. Hanson. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

After nine lonely years as her father’s prisoner, Dorie McCurdy is forced to marry the new war chief of clan MacKinlay. Terrified and unwilling to speak, she imagines the worst of her handsome, imposing new husband.

Bryce MacKinlay Campbell’s wife and child were taken by illness years ago, and all he’s wanted since is to be alone. Unfortunately, he is ordered to marry the McCurdy laird’s daughter for an alliance between their clans. He’s appalled by the way his bride is treated by her family when she shows up looking like a ragged, homeless waif. Bryce can provide for her needs, and offer his name, but not his heart—that will never happen again.

In her husband’s strong arms, Dorie slowly emerges from her silence...and gradually the ice around Bryce’s heart begins to melt. But when she is unexpectedly offered an annulment, she must choose—stay with Bryce, who she’s fallen in love with but who never wanted her, or choose the unknown possibilities of a different future.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Bryce MacKinlay Campbell lost his wife and child to illness many years ago and struggles to go on without them.  Now his Laird is forcing him to marry for the sake of the Clan.
Dorie McCurdy has been locked away by her father since a childish tantrum caused tragedy years ago.  Her brother has decided he can sell her off for his benefit.
This is a shockingly realistic look at just how powerless some women were all those years ago.  A very emotional story that will require a box of tissues.  There is also a lot of joy and excitement.
This book is part of a great series, but easily read on it's own.
I loved every page.

One very early morning, Allison B. Hanson woke up with a conversation going on in her head. It wasn't so much a dream as it was being forced awake by her imagination. Unable to go back to sleep, she gave up, went to the computer, and began writing. Years later it still hasn't stopped. Allison lives near Hershey, Pennsylvania. Her contemporary romances include paranormal, sci-fi, fantasy, and mystery suspense. She enjoys candy immensely, as well as long motorcycle rides and reading.

He risks everything to save more than her life. He dances with the devil to win her heart.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

As a love struck teen-ager Lucifer disappointed himself by failing to protect the girl he loves from marriage to an old man.  Going off to war and being declared dead doesn't seem to have improved matters.
Diana has made a decent life out of her marriage,  after some struggles.  She rules her household with determination and kindness.  Unfortunately her stepson is becoming more and more dangerous, and not just to her.
A very exciting historical romance with lots of danger and emotional characters.  Our hero has been hiding from his old life.  Our heroine needs to live life to the full. There is a certain gambling hell from another series that is mentioned in this book , but this is the start of a totally different series.  I will definitely be looking forward to the next books.
Great fun.

A USA Today Bestseller, JADE LEE has been scripting love stories since she first picked up a set of paper dolls. Ball gowns and rakish lords caught her attention early (thank you Georgette Heyer), and her fascination with the Regency began. An author of more than 40 romance novels and winner of dozens of industry awards, her latest series is RAKES AND ROGUES. The first one, 50 WAYS TO RUIN A RAKE, is an awesome tale of love and laughter.
And don’t forget Kathy Lyons.. She’s Jade’s paranormal half. Check out her new shifter series GRIZZLIES GONE WILD.

A Governess Should Never... Tempt a Prizefighter (The Governess Chronicles #1) by Emily Windsor. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

“So tell me, Miss Griffin, why should I employ you as governess?”

A question to rouse fear within the breast of any prospective governess but for Matilda, a lady without references, appropriate brown clothing or any experience with children whatsoever, doubly so.

Yet alone in the world except for a brutish guardian and a malodorous betrothed, Matilda must seek her own future, even if that means employment in the household of a rugged ex-prizefighter with sizeable muscles and doubtless minuscule intellect.

“Please continue to enlighten me, Miss Griffin.”

Mr Seth Hawkins, owner of famed Boxing Academy, has reached the point of desperation in his search for a governess.

Yet with no other suitable candidates, could this yellow-clad, bespectacled female who seemed to think him a witless dolt with calloused knuckles and no books, teach his daughter the ways of a lady?

The Lady and the Prizefighter.

One should never judge a man by his well-defined muscles or a lady by her yellow-silk slippers, for beneath both façades lay yearning hearts, shared dreams and a taste for adventure.

With scandalous kisses in midnight carriages, tavern excursions, whifflers, nobblers and dressing as a nefarious footpad on the prowl, the vocation of governess has never been so exciting…

A fun, heart-warming Regency romance, this is the first book in a companion series to the Games of Gentlemen.

This tale contains sensual scenes.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Miss Matilda Griffin is desperate to get away from her hated guardian before he marries her off to one of his old cronies.  Work as a governess is all she can think of,  but with no references or experience jobs are hard to come by.
Mr Seth Hawkins was born in the rookeries of St. Giles,  and literally fought his way out.  He was a champion prize fighter and now runs his own boxing academy all while bringing up his daughter on his own.
This is an unusual historical romance and so much fun.  I loved the use of boxing "Cant". It really made it more realistic and caused a lot of giggles.  Our hero has lots of surprises up his sleeve with his large muscles.  There is much more to him than our heroine believes.  Our heroine is highly educated but very realistic and adventurous,  with a fabulous outgoing personality.
Great fun,  I loved it.

Emily grew up in the north of England on a diet of historical romance and classical mythology.
Unfortunately, you couldn’t study Georgian slang or the Regency London Season, so she did the next best thing and gained a degree in Classics and History instead. This ‘led’ to an eight-year stint in engineering.
Having left city life, she now lives in a dilapidated farmhouse in the country where her days are spent writing, fixing the leaky roof, battling the endless vegetation and finding pictures of well-tied cravats.
