The Rake of Hearts (The Games of Gentlemen #2) by Emily Windsor. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

When the heart is afire…
By his own admission, Lord Ernest Brook is a rake. With sapphire gaze, sinfully handsome looks and a duke for a brother, the pleasures of London have come with ease…apart from one.
Ever since the gauntlet of her first wintry dismissal was thrown, the widowed Hebe Lock has stirred his deepest desires, but just what would it take to woo such a woman?

Sparks will fly.
Hebe Locke has vowed to never again fall for a scoundrel after her brief marriage to one left her broken and haunted.
Now she finds comfort with paintbrush and canvas, but as a female artist in a male world, commissions are as rare as a ballroom without rakes.

A castle of enchantment.
As the heat of late summer warms the land, an ancient, moated castle plays host to a widow and a rake, both concealing passions contrary to their reputations.
But as Lord Ernest awakens Hebe’s desire and thaws her frozen emotions, can she hold true to her vow?
Or can this rake win the one heart he yearns for?

Sensual Regency romance with warmth and wit, this tale also includes a disreputable aunt with a secondary love story, Cotswold country fairs, sinful masquerades and...a goat.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Widow Hebe Locke is starting to enjoy life again,  but she still suffers nightmares and her heart is sorely wounded. Our heroine shields herself with an icy demeanor. Her art is what she really enjoys.
Lord Ernest Brooke has a reputation as a rake and London society has thoroughly embraced him.  Even though he's having a good time his heart is in the countryside with his horses.
This is a beautiful historical romance where our author paints a picture just as well with her words as our heroine with her sketches. The characters both young and old are lots of fun.  A wonderful trip into the bucolic charms of life in the country.
I loved it.

Emily grew up in the north of England on a diet of historical romance and classical mythology.
Unfortunately, you couldn’t study Georgian slang or the Regency London Season, so she did the next best thing and gained a degree in Classics and History instead. This ‘led’ to an eight-year stint in engineering.
Having left city life, she now lives in a dilapidated farmhouse in the country where her days are spent writing, fixing the leaky roof, battling the endless vegetation and finding pictures of well-tied cravats.

A Governess Should Never... Tempt a Prizefighter (The Governess Chronicles #1) by Emily Windsor. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

“So tell me, Miss Griffin, why should I employ you as governess?”

A question to rouse fear within the breast of any prospective governess but for Matilda, a lady without references, appropriate brown clothing or any experience with children whatsoever, doubly so.

Yet alone in the world except for a brutish guardian and a malodorous betrothed, Matilda must seek her own future, even if that means employment in the household of a rugged ex-prizefighter with sizeable muscles and doubtless minuscule intellect.

“Please continue to enlighten me, Miss Griffin.”

Mr Seth Hawkins, owner of famed Boxing Academy, has reached the point of desperation in his search for a governess.

Yet with no other suitable candidates, could this yellow-clad, bespectacled female who seemed to think him a witless dolt with calloused knuckles and no books, teach his daughter the ways of a lady?

The Lady and the Prizefighter.

One should never judge a man by his well-defined muscles or a lady by her yellow-silk slippers, for beneath both façades lay yearning hearts, shared dreams and a taste for adventure.

With scandalous kisses in midnight carriages, tavern excursions, whifflers, nobblers and dressing as a nefarious footpad on the prowl, the vocation of governess has never been so exciting…

A fun, heart-warming Regency romance, this is the first book in a companion series to the Games of Gentlemen.

This tale contains sensual scenes.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Miss Matilda Griffin is desperate to get away from her hated guardian before he marries her off to one of his old cronies.  Work as a governess is all she can think of,  but with no references or experience jobs are hard to come by.
Mr Seth Hawkins was born in the rookeries of St. Giles,  and literally fought his way out.  He was a champion prize fighter and now runs his own boxing academy all while bringing up his daughter on his own.
This is an unusual historical romance and so much fun.  I loved the use of boxing "Cant". It really made it more realistic and caused a lot of giggles.  Our hero has lots of surprises up his sleeve with his large muscles.  There is much more to him than our heroine believes.  Our heroine is highly educated but very realistic and adventurous,  with a fabulous outgoing personality.
Great fun,  I loved it.

Her plan to deceive a duke of ruthless reputation is audacious, but in true society, weren't all dukes braying and buffle-headed with jovial smiles and far too many acres?

A sensual Regency romance with warmth and wit.

From the bestselling author of Amazon No.1 Regency Romance, 'Let Sleeping Dukes Lie', comes this new series….

1 – The Duke of Diamonds
2 – The Rake of Hearts
3 – The Earl of Spades
4 – The Prince of Clubs

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Miss Evelyn Pearce learned to be an artist at her father's knee.  Now he is gone, she and her sick little sister are in debt to a wicked money lender.  Evelyn works at a theater painting scenery but nobody will buy her art because she's a woman.  With the situation worsening she can only think of one way out.
Casper Brook, the Duke of Rothwell has worked hard and ruthlessly to repair the family finances that his father gambled away.  He has a lot of people, family and tenants relying on him,  so he guards all he is responsible for strongly.  He does however also have a love of art, and one painting in particular.  The model in it is almost an obsession.
This is an exciting and at times emotional historical romance.  We meet many fascinating characters that I'm sure will feature in the coming books in the series. I particularly loved our strong females.  Our author gives us a glimpse of the seedier side of London and it's inhabitants.
A very entertaining book and I can't wait to read the next one.
Great fun.

Marquess to a Flame (Rules of the Rogue #3) by Emily Windsor. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

A winter’s heart…
“Debonair, handsome and with a devil’s smile. How could any woman resist?”

The Marquess of Winterbourne has long been guided by his Rules of the Rogue, but as emissary for the Crown, his next mission will break every single one. Sent to the wilds of Cornwall to beguile secrets from a country miss, the last thing this rogue expects is to unearth his own buried heart.

A taste of spring…
“A rogue and a fribble. How could any woman succumb?”

Miss Tamsyn Penrose remains far from impressed by charming London scoundrel Lord Winterbourne, preferring a wild gallop over the moors to flashing black eyes and fulsome flattery. But as danger lurks and prejudice ebbs, she uncovers a complex man who awakens her hidden strength and arouses her forgotten fire.

Seasons collide…

Desire sparks and passion flares in this Cornish land of cove and tor. Can Tamsyn step from the shadow of her past? And will Jack Winterbourne tear up the rules for a woman who maddens his senses and thaws his heart?

A sensual Regency Romance with warmth and wit, this story also includes a fusty valet with a secondary love story, picnics, swordplay, peacocks and…piskies.

Note: contains scenes of a sexual nature.

These books can be read stand-alone or as part of the Rules of the Rogue Series.

1 – An Earl in Wolf's Clothing
1.5 – Merry Christmas, my Viscount (Christmas novella)
2 – Let Sleeping Dukes Lie
3 – Marquess to a Flame

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A vicious attack left Miss Tamsyn Penrose hiding in silence for years,  too terrified to say a word about who hurt her.
Now she is starting to recover with the help of her friend.
Jack,  the Marquess of Winterbourne works as a spy for the Crown.  His best friends and fellow spies have one by one found love,  usually with a little matchmaking from him.  Now he is being sent to the wild coast of Cornwall to get information on a particularly vicious French spy.  He is much more used to the hustle and bustle of life in the city,  he is sure to be bored so far from anything remotely exciting.
Our heroine is much stronger than she ever believed,  and she will need every ounce of that strength.  Our hero is a very well known rogue.  Nobody knows better than him that a persons reputation doesn't always reflect the truth.
A very exciting story full of danger and fun.  All characters have lots personality.  This is part of a series but each book can be read on it's own.  It will probably tempt you to read the rest in the series.  They are all well worth reading.
I loved it.

Let Sleeping Dukes Lie (Rules of the Rogue, #2). by Emily Windsor. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

“Strait-laced. Ruthless. Arrogant.”
Alexander Westhide, the Duke of Rakecombe has no quarrel with such faint praise as he has forever shunned marriage, women and anything remotely resembling love. Indeed, the damning words merely serve to enhance his haughty façade. But beneath the controlled demeanour lies a duke beset by tragedy, a man turbulent and restless.

“Forthright. Impudent… Capricious saucebox.”
Miss Aideen Quinlan can’t quite express why she feels the need to taunt, tease and generally annoy the Duke of Rakecombe. Maybe it was for the heart-racing spar of words that always ensued, or maybe it was to see the duke’s broad fist clench on his ebony cane, green eyes glittering.
Or maybe it was because she was unable to erase the memory of his vehement kiss…

An unlikely couple.
Torn between his world of espionage and this unquenchable passion, the duke still refuses to lower his fierce defences.
If Aideen is to capture her resistant duke’s troubled heart, it is she who must follow the Rules of the Rogue.
Resistance is futile…

A sensual Regency Romance with warmth and wit, this story also includes unpalatable chefs, a darling of the Season with a secondary love story, deadly walking canes and sheep…

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Alexander Westhide,  the Duke of Rakecombe is an agent for the Crown.  His life is full of danger,  not only to him but all those close to him.  That is why he pulls a cloak of ruthlessness around himself.  If he shuts himself off,  nobody can get hurt.  Unfortunately or fortunately for him a certain Irish spitfire will not be ignored.
Miss Aideen Quinlan has always known about the secret world of undercover work.  Her beloved uncle makes some of their best gadgets.  It can be a scary and dangerous world,  but she is no fainting society miss.
Our protagonists met in a previous book in this series,  but you don't have to have read it to enjoy this one.
This story is full of excitement and danger,  but there are definite times when you want to smack the hero.  Much like our heroine does.  A very amusing tale with great characters.  Hopefully "Jack" will get his story next.  I can't wait for some lady to bring him to heel.
I love this series , you can read each book on it's own, but I prefer to read them in order.

Add To

A pursuit is underway…
From the hallowed halls of London’s Almack’s to the unkempt taverns of Drury Lane, from whispered words in glittering theatres to seductive kisses at Vauxhall Gardens – an earl must pursue his lady.

Propriety be damned. Anything is allowed. But for success, the Earl of Kelmarsh may have to enact the Rules of the Rogue…

A resolute lady.
Miss Sophie Beckford escaped to Ireland after her almost betrothed broke her heart. Now a year later, she’s back in London – stronger, better attired, armed with her cousin and determined not to fall for the blackguard’s wiles again.

A desperate gentleman.
What’s an earl to do when his almost betrothed refuses to speak to him, hear him out or even look at him after a misunderstanding of gargantuan proportions?

With dubious assistance from a roguish marquess, a strait-laced duke, and even the occasional poet and famous actor throwing in their sixpence, the earl will try any ruse, any rule in the book to recapture Sophie’s heart.

Failure is not an option.

A sensual Regency romance with warmth and wit.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Miss Sophie Beckford has been recovering from a broken heart, but now it's time to return to London.  The man who broke her heart is still intent on winning her back,  but will not be honest with her.  She has grown up a lot in her time with her outspoken cousin.
Abraham Wolcott,  Earl of Kelmarsh is a spy for the Crown.  He has asked to be released from service, but that could take time.  He needs to win back his love,  but cannot tell the truth.  He is taking advice from his friends on how to get back in her good graces.  Silly man.
We have lots of wonderful characters in this and I'm sure we will get to meet them again.
A funny and exciting story full of intrigue and danger.
I loved it.

Newly ennobled Viscount Asher Rainham has no schedule for seduction, Christmas or dallying with women. He has merely turned up for the good company, intelligent card playing and excellent brandy. But as snow swathes the land, a certain Mrs Mereworth confounds his expectations and assaults his methodical senses.
Asher, spymaster, a man who never takes risks, finds himself in need of some Rules of the Rogue…

Ghost stories on a windy night, swordplay down the Great Portrait Gallery, snapdragon in the dark – a lady and a gentleman with no thought to love… Merry Christmas.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Widowed Mrs. Lily Mereworth made a list of things to do. All things her husband would have forbidden.  She wants to rediscover herself. There are only two things left on her list,  and she only has this Christmas celebration  week at her friend's house to accomplish them.  She is a highly intelligent woman who has had hide what she is capable of for too long.
Viscount Asher Rainham only recently gained his title because of his services to the Crown.  He is a spy master and the commander of some of the men at the house party.  He is a man who likes to calculate the odds of success of everything he does.  Everything must be orderly , and the pretty minx is confusing him.
I want to go to a house party like this.  It was obviously so much more fun than the type we have nowadays. I loved all the entertainments they thought up.  There are lots of fascinating characters whose stories I'm dying to read.  I loved it.
