This is part of a series and must be read in order.  
Nicolas Deschanel is turning a new leaf.  He has stopped drinking and wasting his time,  money and life.  He has come in to the family business,  magic.  He is working with the woman who caused this turn around,  but is not in a romantic relationship with her.  
Lauren is not magical like the family she is working for but she is a valued member of the team.  
Charlotte Fontenot has to take a new team member on her new assignment to Paris.  This is only supposed to be a watch and learn job.  No danger.  They could not be more wrong.  
Our teams of investigators work all over the world discovering other magic users,  to see if they are good or bad.  
A very interesting book, just not enough magic for me.
