Insincere. (Detective Elizabeth Ireland #2) by Joanne Clancy. My ARC Review.

She loves me. He loves me not.

"Someone is trying to kill me," said the distressed woman. "You're the only one who can help."
Detective Elizabeth Ireland soon finds herself chasing the dark heart of a serial killer whose seemingly motiveless murders are terrifying Cork City.
Whatever it takes, Elizabeth is determined that this time the killer will not escape.

Another baffling who done it. The 2nd in the Detective Elizabeth Ireland series. You can read it as a stand alone.

Elizabeth gets a late night phone call from a stranger, asking to meet. The woman is dead when she arrives. Is it suicide? Like the police say. Is is murder?  The deeper Elizabeth digs into the family and friends of the woman,  the more complicated it becomes. The police (including Elizabeth's boyfriend ) want her to accept the suicide finding.
There is also a serial killer in the city. Is he connected to the dead woman?

A book that will keep you guessing all the way through. I was just as baffled as Elizabeth.  So many suspects, so little proof.
A true thriller. Elizabeth is a great detective,  but she doesn't always get it right.

Protective Hearts by D.S.Williams. My A.R.C. review.

After being kidnapped by the Chicago Heart Ripper, Finn is his only surviving victim. Rescued by her brother , Finn suffers heartache in the aftermath as she struggles to come to terms with what happened and battles the amnesia that prevents her from identifying the serial killer. Caleb is determined to protect Finn out of respect and a sense of duty towards his fiend´s younger sister. he suspects there is more to the prolific serial killer than meets the eye, and one question haunts him; why was Finn kept and not killed. It´s a race against time to retrieve Finn´s memories , keep her out of the ripper´s clutches , and discover the secrets of his identity. What Finn doesn´t realise is that Caleb and his family are hiding secrets of their own, some of which Finn may not be able to accept.

I was lucky enough to receive an A.R.C. of this but that doesn't colour my review in any way.
★★★★★
Oh wow, this book is so different from anything I have read before.
Our heroine Finn has been rescued from the clutches of a vicious serial killer, at the expense of her brother's life. The Chicago Heart Ripper has killed many prostitutes,  but Finn is not his usual target. Add to that he kept her far longer than his other victims.  Finn has P.T.S.D. and can't remember anything about what the man looked like. Everything happened in total darkness.  She is physically and mentally wounded. Her friends have gathered round and decide to hide her away to make sure the killer will never find her again.
Caleb has known Finn and her brother for years, and has always treated Finn as a little sister. Her friends leave her in a hideaway with a wolf as protection.  Finn has a very traumatic time ahead of her. Her belief in her own sanity will be pushed to it's limit.
I loved this book. The heroine is faced with so much it's a testament to her strength that she is not a gibbering wreck. Caleb and Rafe are such typical Alpha males . Doing their best to protect but constantly pissing her off. They are werewolves and are used to sharing everything, even their thoughts. The killer has been robbed of his prey, and will not rest until he gets her back.
This book is loaded with sexual tension, but no sex scenes. There are some very uncomfortable memories.  The emotion of all the characters is the strongest part of the story.  You can really relate to Finn trying to understand everything and everyone around her, and trying to recover from her ordeal. With the killings still happening Finn wants to help identify the killer.
I want to read much more about all the characters in this story.  I think I see a potential relationship building between two of the secondary characters.
This is also a lovely long book, well worth buying.

My Blood Runs Blue. by Stacy Eaton . my Review.

Officer Kristin Greene has always felt that something was missing from her life. Although her job with the Fawn Hollow Township Police Department keeps her busy, she still feels like there is something else out there for her.
She soon finds herself investigating a homicide where a young woman has had her throat ripped out. When she has to give the death notification to the family, her investigative nature comes out fast and strong when the parents seem too accepting of their daughter's death and make comments that just don't fit.
When the family requests the assistance of the VMF Securities, Kristin is confused that they would think a security company could assist with the murder investigation. When Julian and Alexander arrive she quickly finds herself being pulled into a love triangle that has been going on longer then she has been alive. Why do they look at her as if they know her? And why do they keep talking about Calista?
Join Kristin as she fights to learn the truth about the recent murder, the seductive and blood drinking men that have entered into her life and the real truth about herself.
★★★★☆
Kristen is a cop in the small town of Fawn Hollow. She prefers to work the night shift, and is feeling low and incomplete.  Her husband died in the line of duty two years ago. This night Kirsten and her partner are called to a particularly brutal murder. A young woman from the town is dead and it's Kirsten job to tell her parents.
Alex is the head of V.M.F. to humans that means Virtual Military Force but to others it means Vampire Military Force. He knows who this killer is, so he sends Julian to catch him. Julian has a history with this killer who has been killing their women for years.
As soon as Kirsten meets Julian, then Alex the emotional rollercoaster starts.
The rules for these vampires is slightly different to "normal " and the characters are sexy and strong. I did not guess the correct ending . The only reason it lost a star is it's written in three different P.O.V. which causes a bit of repetition. It also skipped from memories and present time. A very enjoyable read.

Hades by Candice Fox. A really Twisted Thriller.

★★★★☆
A really twisted thriller.
Hades lives at the dump and makes incredible sculptures out of other people's waste. This just gives him the cover for his real business,, which is getting rid of all sorts of problems.  One night someone comes to him with two small problems.  That night changes the lives of several people.
Frank is a homicide detective,  he has been reassigned to a new station.  His new partner is Eden, a woman with a tragic past that no  one knows about. Except of course  her brother Eric . Who also works as a detective in the same squad.
The first case Frank and Eden get turns out to be a potential serial killer.
We have some seriously twisted characters in this story, and no real hero. The ones who would normally be the villains might be the heroes..The victims all face a terrifying fate.  It  was impossible to tell how this book was going to end until it did. A very good read, maybe not for bedtime.

Never Smile At Strangers by Jennifer Jaynes

★★★★☆
This is a good creepy thriller.

The small backwater town of  Grand Trespass has a serial killer living in their midst. A young girl has vanished. Some think she has just run off but her best friend knows she wouldn't do that without telling her. There is no shortage of suspects. The towns people are a strange bunch, lots of dysfunctional families. The town's secrets start to surface and the truth will come out.
There have been more killings than anyone (except one) knows .
I thought I had guessed who the killer was about halfway through but I was wrong. The author caught me out. I like that. The story is quite emotional at times. Our very twisted killer is one you almost feel sorry for at times. His family is the most dysfunctional of them all.

I see the possibility of another story featuring the person who vanished at the end. If there is anything to be learned from this book it is to treasure your family.

Blood Lust. by Catherine Sharp.

★★★★★
This is a real thriller. There was No way to guess who the killer is.
Nick is a detective and retired SEAL. He and his partner are called to a very gruesome murder scene. It is obvious to everyone that this is one very sick psychopath.
Claire is on the list of the last people the victim had contact with. She is a flight crew attendant on the plane that the poor woman travelled on.
There was a man on the flight that gave Claire the creeps, so Nick checks him out. Then looks for another excuse to call on Claire.
The body count is getting higher with No proof who the killer might be.
A wonderful murder, mystery. Lots of twists and turns and suspense. I defy anyone to guess who the killer is before the author tells us. A gorgeous hero and a lovely brave heroine. A very creepy villain.  This author has a brilliantly twisted mind. I loved it.
