No Rest for the Wicked (Pirates of Britannia Connected World) by Lauren Smith. Historical Romance ARC Review.

Add To

A wicked pirate, a lady-turned cabin boy and a love reaching the distant horizon.

Your next Pirate Adventure awaits You!

A lady’s guide to surviving aboard a pirate ship:
1) Dress as a cabin boy.
2) Avoid drinking too much rum when the handsome captain is around.
3) Do not let the captain kiss you…again.

The last thing Roberta Harcourt needs is to be trapped on a ship with pirates. After she is separated from her father when their ship is attacked, Roberta finds herself the unwilling guest of sinfully handsome Captain Dominic Grey. He gives her two choices: to share his bed and maintain her life as a lady, or she can sleep on the floor of his cabin and live the life of a cabin boy until he decides to set her free. Refusing to be seduced by a pirate, she dresses in breeches and assumes duties on board his ship among the men, but each night, sharing a cabin with the brooding, seductively intense captain, she begins to wonder if letting him kiss her again might be a rule worth breaking…

Dominic lost his innocence long ago when he was kidnapped and sold into indentured servitude in the West Indies. Determined to leave the painful memories of his past behind, he looks only to the future and the next prize he and his crew can capture on the high seas…until he discovers and captures the feisty daughter of a naval admiral. Protecting her from other pirates and preventing her marriage to an English officer is all in a day’s work for a pirate. But Dominic is determined to play the gentleman he once was born to be. He tries to resist the siren’s call of her sweet lips, especially when she’s arguing with him.

But damned if the woman wasn’t meant to be a pirate because she’s stealing his heart…

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

After an argument with his father young Dominic Greyville made a terrible mistake. Fourteen very difficult years later he is known as Captain Grey, his ship the "Emerald Dragon" one of the best known pirate ships in the West Indies.  The valuable cargo he decides to liberate from an English navy ship is not quite what he expected.
Roberta Harcourt has been going to sea with her father the Admiral all her life.  She knows he is trying to find her a husband because of all tbe eligible men he introduces to her,  but none appeal the wanderer she is is at heart.
This is a true swashbuckling adventure on the high seas.  Great fun,  fabulous characters and lots of danger and excitement.  We also get a little teaser for the next book at the end.
I loved it.

Add To

Any woman who says she’s no trouble will be nothing but trouble!

Kidnapped by a fortune hunter who intended to force her hand in marriage, Miss Kitty Wyverne uses her wits and all her resourcefulness to escape the villain… and promptly finds herself in yet another dangerous situation. The small cart she’s taken refuge in, hidden amongst the crates and barrels, is being driven to the Port of Ellesmere by a notorious pirate, Declan Kelly. Handsome, charming, and far too appealing for her peace of mind, Kitty doesn’t trust him, but she’s nonetheless drawn to him.

When Declan discovers Kitty’s presence, it’s like he’s struck gold. She needs safe passage home, and he needs the assistance of a lady in order to gain access to one of his enemies. With the deal struck, they embark on their journey together. Of course, he didn’t count on just how much Kitty would appeal to him and how much he wants her for himself. But neither of them could foresee the complications that would lay ahead when the crew of the Sweet Colleen learns of the reward for Kitty’s return… and that in proclaiming her kidnapping to the world, her father is cementing her status as a fallen woman.

Facing mutiny, deadly storms, and their own growing attraction for one another, Kitty realizes that perhaps being a lady isn’t what she wants, after all.

Not when being The Pirate’s Bluestocking offers passion, excitement and the promise of love.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Declan Kelly is a pirate and a wanted man,  so he's disguised himself to get out of town.  The last thing he needs is a stowaway in his cart.
Miss Kitty Wyverne has managed to escape the man who abducted her,  now she needs to find her way home at the other end of the country.
Our hero might be a good sailor but he's a very poor pirate.  He has already got some of his crew to rescue from prison.  Our heroine has spent her life buried in her books.  The only men to ever show an interest just want her inheritance. It's past time for her to stand up for herself.
A very exciting story and well worth the five stars even though it's not a very fat book.  I fell in love with the characters on the first page.  I would have liked a little more detail,  like what happened to the money.
This book does link to a series but easily read on it's own.
I loved it.

Rose “Red” isn’t a Rees. Washed ashore as a babe, she cannot remember her parents or the meaning the locket she still wears around her neck. When clues point north, Rose heads to Scotland to uncover the truth about family she had lost. Fortunately for her, the clan leader is more than willing to help her…because Rose is his long lost betrothed.

Struggling to find peace after his father’s death and shocked at finding the woman he’d been betrothed to since childhood, Thorn is torn between marrying someone he knows and trying to convince the fierce Rose to remain with him as his wife. While unwilling to tie herself to a man who says he will be her husband, Rose cannot shake the desire to know what it feels like to be Thorn's. But she quickly comes to realize that there is more to Thorn than a man of laws and steel, and more to their attraction than she ever thought possible.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rose(Red)  has grown up among a family of smugglers and pirates after she was washed up on the beach after a storm as a child.  She has vague memories of her father but that's all.
Dubhach (Thorn) MacPherson has been searching for his lost betrothed for years.  Many women have come claiming to be her,  but even though he hasn't seen her since they were children he will know her.  Unfortunately as the clan chief and last of his line he can't wait much longer to marry.
Our fierce and firery heroine is a fascinating character.
I loved the story but feel it could easily have been fleshed out into a bigger book.  At the end of the story we met another character that looks really interesting.
Good fun.

When a hardened pirate meets a proper English rose...

Read for Free with Kindle Unlimited!

A bitter man, pirate Jack Shadow Stirling cares for little but his ship and his crew. But disaster strikes the Golden Orion; driven leagues off course in a storm, his men begin dropping like flies from typhus. Forced to anchor in a bay on the West Africa coast to see to his men and mend damage to the hull, Jack and three of his crew go in search of fresh water and meat to shore up their dwindling supplies. What he finds surprises him - an English lady, whom he likens to a rare orchid, is treating the sick from a nearby village, while her botanist brother, Alexander Bromley, searches for specimens.

Startled by pirates invading her small camp, Lydia Bromley snatches up her pistol and aims it at the tall, dark-haired, handsome devil who leads them. Unfazed, he grins at her and warns her that should she shoot him with a muff pistol, she would fail to kill him. But he would be annoyed.

Thus begins Lydia's journey, discovering the love and romance she’d thought denied her... with a pirate!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Captain Jack "Shadow"Sterling and his crew of pirates have to limp into shore on the African coast.  The ship has been damaged and some of his men are very sick.
Lydia Bromley and her brother have been in Africa studying the plants and the medicinal values of them.
The natives do not take kindly to more "white men" in the area.  All of a sudden everyone's life is in danger.
This is a historical romance full of adventure and danger for all our characters.  I really enjoyed travelling the high seas with them.  I think that I would have stayed on the islands myself but that's just my love of the sea showing.
I loved it.

Lizzie Wickham is the sheltered daughter of the Governor of a Caribean island that is a hot bed for pirates.  When he is murdered she finds herself at the mercy of those same pirates.
Pirate captain Rourke Mackall has just docked when he finds out his friend has been killed.  He knows he must find the killer and protect the Governor's family.
There are strange friendships to be made and dangerous enemies to face for our characters.  A very exciting and unusual story line.  Nothing happens the way you expect it to.
A very enjoyable read.

The de Wolfe of Wharf Street (Pirates of Britannia Connected World) by Elizabeth Ellen Carter. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Grab the next exciting addition to the Pirates of Britannia World with this action packed rescue on the high seas in "The de Wolfe of Wharf Street"

1629 A.D. -Gabriel Hardacre is one of three orphan brothers with a talent for acrobatics and performing.

It's how they make their living... mostly. If a few jewels and trinkets make it into their hands from time to time... well, a man has to eat after all. Their haunt is the Wharf Street Tavern at the docks in Barnstaple.

Perspicacity Glenwood, known as Cassie to her friends, is a forthright and determined young woman. She runs a small school that teaches the children of the docks - as well as some of the adults - who want to learn to read and write.

One of her older students is the handsome Gabriel, but a burgeoning romance between them is thwarted when Cassie receives word that an ailing aunt in Ireland needs her care.

The voyage across the Irish Sea is a short one and ought to be without peril, but the evil Dutch pirate Jan Janszoon controls Lundy Island just outside the Bristol Channel, picking off ships for their bounty of goods - and people to sell as slaves in North Africa.

Gabriel learns from a mysterious man, who simply calls himself de Wolfe, that Cassie's ship has been taken. The man's wife is also among the captives and he's putting together 'a wolf pack' to destroy Janszoon's base of operations for good.

The mission will be hazardous, it will be deadly - and it has to be done within the next two weeks before Cassie and the other captives are taken out of reach forever.

Can Gabriel save the woman he's fallen in love with?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Gabriel Hardacre and his two brothers might have different fathers but that doesn't mean they are any less a family.  They took an oath to stay together.  So they travel the country earning a living any way they can.  Mostly it's as acrobats entertaining the crowds or doing odd jobs.
Perspicacity Glenwood (Cassie) is making a new life for herself with the help of her cousin and his wife.  She will be teaching little ones in the almshouse school.
This is a very unusual historical romance.  It has fantastic characters and lots of action.  The danger and excitement comes in unexpected places.  It ties in nicely with two of my favourite series.  The World of De Wolfe and The pirates of Britannia.
Great fun,  I loved it.
