Add To

Take an arranged marriage, add a damaged duke who doesn’t wish to marry, and an independent lady intent on her own pursuits. Stir in an explosive, passionate attraction. Sparks fly!

Welcome to book one in this exciting new series by Maggi Andersen! Read for Free in Kindle Unlimited!

Lady Nellie Dountry, and Charles, His Grace, Duke of Shewsbury have had their hearts broken in the past. Neither is prepared to chance love again. When they are compelled to marry because of an agreement made long ago by their fathers, they are both determined to resist falling in love. Convinced that it’s mere desire which draws them together, both are surprised by their jealousy.

Nellie finds Charles irresistibly attractive, but other women do too. They circle like sharks. Aware that Charles’s former fiancée, who had broken his heart some years ago, is now a widow and on the hunt for a lover, Nellie struggles to trust him while she fears she is falling in love with him.

Charles was more than pleased with his choice of bride, but he wishes she wasn’t so difficult to understand. One minute she’s hot for him, the next as remote from him as a chalet in the Alps. Why he wants to get close surprises him; he planned for his marriage to be little more than one of polite indifference. But Nellie is so dashed beguiling!

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lady Nellie Dountry is not happy about the arranged marriage she is facing,  especially when she hears to rumors about her intended groom.
Charles Glazebrook,  Duke of Shewsbury is prepared to honour the arrangement that his father made,  so long as the woman in question agrees.  He will not risk his heart again so if he can get along with Lady Nellie it's fine.
When two people enter an arranged marriage there are no guarantees.  They don't know each other well enough to trust.  Good intentions and family support can help make it work.
An entertaining historical romance.

The Scandalous Lyon (The Lyon's Den Connected World) by Maggi Andersen. Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Enter the world of the most notorious gambling den in London, where matches are made... unusually. Welcome to the world of THE LYON'S DEN: The Black Widow of Whitehall Connected World, where the underground of Regency London thrives... and loves.

A match made in heaven. If he was sure of anything, it was this!

Love can be found in the strangest of places…

Lord Jason Glazebrook has no plans to settle down. He will not inherit for several years, and worse, he is at odds with his brother, Charles, Duke of Shewsbury, who believes him capable of a dangerous, dishonorable act.

To escape the tension at home, Jason spends many hours at his club, the Lyon’s Den in Whitehall. When the unscrupulous matchmaker, Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon introduces him to a debutante, Miss Beverly Crabtree, Jason considers the beautiful young lady perfect for a dalliance, and invites her to ride with him in Hyde Park.

When he discovers Beverly is a gently reared girl, he is determined not to see her again. But he cannot forget her and allows Dove-Lyon to draw him back into her net.

Despite his brother’s warning, Jason refuses to relinquish the lovely Miss Crabtree’s company. He senses she is in trouble and wants to help. And much more. He has never met a woman he wanted for his own…until he met Beverly.
But so much stands in their way.

It is only a matter of time before shame and disgrace befall the Crabtree family. While her worried mother seeks a wealthy suitor for her, Beverly tries to deny her feelings for Jason. The noble Shewsburys will never accept her as his wife.
Jason’s plan may be a possible way out of her troubles. With few options left to her, and the lure of spending days in his company, Beverly is determined to take the chance.

Their journey into the countryside to mend a family rift might bring closure, or it could go horribly wrong.

(Note: This is an introductory novella to the Never Series - Never Doubt a Duke, Book One, coming soon!)

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lord Jason Glazebrook has disappointed his brother by being sent down from Oxford. When he is summoned into the private drawing room of the notorious matchmaker Mrs Dove-Lyon he knows to be on guard. He has nothing to offer on the marriage mart,  and he's far too young to even think about it.
Miss Beverly Crabtree has been dragged to the matchmaker in London to find a husband before the problem facing her father becomes known.  She doesn't like the idea of trapping someone.
This is a sweet historical romance with lovely characters.  Our young protagonists will need help to solve their problems.
This is part of a multi author series all based around the Lyon's Den gambling house.  All the ones I've read so far have been good fun.
A very entertaining read.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A great set of stories. Some spooky some not but all really well worth reading.

Emma,

by Kathryn LeVeque.

☆☆☆☆☆

This might be a shorter story than usual from this author but it's still a wonderful one.
It starts in the present time with characters that just might have met in a previous life.
We go back in time to the traumatic time when our careless hero and unfortunate heroine first met.
I would love this to have been fleshed out to a full length book but I loved it anyway.
****************************

Aislin,

By Meara Platt.

☆☆☆☆☆

William has lived as the pirate Lucifer for the last three years,  with very little memory of what happened before. Now however he has been having dreams of a woman who is obviously special to him.  So it's back to the place he hopes to find her for him.
Aislin is apparently a very dangerous woman to know.  Her father holds a lot of power in the smuggling community,  and if anyone threatens what is his they have a tendency to dissapear forever.
An action packed story with danger from all sides.  Both our characters are strong and possibly a bit too brave. The mystery they have to solve while not knowing who is on which side gives us a lot of excitement and a few giggles.
I loved it.
****************************

Sarah,

By Scarlett Scott.

☆☆☆☆☆

Lady Sarah Bolingbroke is determined to have revenge for herself and her sister from the man who destroyed them both.  A masked ball seems like the perfect opportunity.
Phillip the Earl of Markham gave up on love a few years ago when he was tricked but had a lucky escape.
This is a lovely story that shows us that not everything we are told is true,  and sometimes it's those closest to us that lie the most.  Great characters that are easy to love,  and a mischievous story line.
Good fun.
**********************************

Madeline.

By Mary Lancaster.
☆☆☆☆☆

Miss Madeline Deare has returned to England to be with her brother after the death of her father.  Her brother seems intent on taking her to see as many unattached men as he can,  even though she's told him she not interested in marriage.
Mr Robert Usher has been a soldier for years but has now returned home. It's not a particularly happy place.  The whole family has a reputation for being slightly crazy,  maybe it's true.  Maybe it's someone with evil intentions.
A nice dark romance, with a damaged hero and a heroine with a good and strong heart.
I always enjoy the "spooky" touch in this authors books.
Loved it.
**********************************

Beth,

By Maggi Andersen.
✰✰✰✰✰

Beth Harrismith was hoping to go to her first ball with her sister,  but a family emergency changes everything.  Little do they know there is mischief afoot.
Marcus Neyland has been asked to keep an eye on friend's sister in law.  What starts as a pleasant evening turns into a race for a young girl's safety.
A fast paced adventure with great characters.
**********************************

Hyacinth,

By Chastity Bowlin.
★★★★★

Hyacinth is a companion to Lady Arabella and accompaning her on a visit to her cousin.  A near tragedy will put her in the arms of her host.
Ian Blake Lord of Dumbarton knows his mother and cousin are matchmaking but that does help the way he feels.
Really good fun.

**********************************

Eleanor,

by Sydney Jane Baily.
★★★★★

Miss Eleanor Blackwood is staying with friends on the way to visit her sister.  There are lots of great memories and friends to see.  Including the handsome Grayson O'Connor.
A lovely Gothic romance full of fun and adventure.
Obviously part of a very good series.
**********************************

Raven,

By Violetta Rand.
☆☆☆☆

James the Earl of Darkmoor has been morning the loss of his love for five years.  She vanished one night and he has never been able to put her out of his heart.  Maybe this anniversary will be easier, and he can move on.
A very short spooky story.

When a hardened pirate meets a proper English rose...

Read for Free with Kindle Unlimited!

A bitter man, pirate Jack Shadow Stirling cares for little but his ship and his crew. But disaster strikes the Golden Orion; driven leagues off course in a storm, his men begin dropping like flies from typhus. Forced to anchor in a bay on the West Africa coast to see to his men and mend damage to the hull, Jack and three of his crew go in search of fresh water and meat to shore up their dwindling supplies. What he finds surprises him - an English lady, whom he likens to a rare orchid, is treating the sick from a nearby village, while her botanist brother, Alexander Bromley, searches for specimens.

Startled by pirates invading her small camp, Lydia Bromley snatches up her pistol and aims it at the tall, dark-haired, handsome devil who leads them. Unfazed, he grins at her and warns her that should she shoot him with a muff pistol, she would fail to kill him. But he would be annoyed.

Thus begins Lydia's journey, discovering the love and romance she’d thought denied her... with a pirate!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Captain Jack "Shadow"Sterling and his crew of pirates have to limp into shore on the African coast.  The ship has been damaged and some of his men are very sick.
Lydia Bromley and her brother have been in Africa studying the plants and the medicinal values of them.
The natives do not take kindly to more "white men" in the area.  All of a sudden everyone's life is in danger.
This is a historical romance full of adventure and danger for all our characters.  I really enjoyed travelling the high seas with them.  I think that I would have stayed on the islands myself but that's just my love of the sea showing.
I loved it.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Miss Letitia Bromley has managed to persuade her guardian to let her have a season in London.  She will be sponsored by an elderly aunt but at least she will be there.  Life in the wilds of Cumbria is far too boring and predictable.
Brandon Cartwright has worked for the Crown for years.  Even his family are unaware of what he does for his country.
Spying and smuggling seem to be everywhere in this story.  It's hard to know who is innocent and who is involved in the crimes.  Our country Miss is well out of her depth.  That will not however stop her from trying to find out what's happening.  This is a lot more dangerous than she knows.
A sweet and exciting tale with wonderful characters.  The action starts on the first page and keeps us interested all the way through.
I loved it.
