Eva de Clare can't understand what has happened with her father lately.  He has been taxing his people into near starvation,  and giving the money to the evil brute who is now demanding her hand in marriage.  No amount of tears or rage is going to change her destiny. 
There is a lot more to find out about both our lead characters lives throughout the story.  Action packed and full of fun and emotion.  A wonderful adventure through the highlands.  I loved it.
