Faithful Heart (The Von Wolfenberg Dynasty #3) by Anna Markland. ARC Review.

…When all hope seems lost…
Destined from childhood to follow his vocation to become a priest, Konrad has lost his faith and no longer believes in God. It’s a precarious predicament in a medieval world dominated by the Church. Disillusioned by war, he wanders Europe in search of himself. Seeking redemption through a crusade against slavery, he becomes a pirate with the goal of seizing ships that carry human cargo.
Zara is a successful woman of commerce, mistress of a Venetian fleet. Konrad is drawn to her, but her vessels often transport slaves. She will stop at nothing to protect her beloved ships.

Konrad Von Wolfenberg was destined for the priesthood until he was required to go to war.  After the horrors of war and some devastating sights he is questioning his faith.  He has left his family home to try and find his new way in life.
In a port city he decides to throw his lot in with pirates,  with only one goal in mind.
Zara Polani is the owner of a fleet of merchant ships in all but name.  She runs the business, but because she is just a woman, the fleet is in her brother's name.  He unfortunately has the body of a man but the mind of a child.
She occasionally takes on unsavoury cargoes,  business is business after all.
This is a truly grand adventure.  Our hero faces up to the real,  not very attractive world as it is.  Not everyone he meets is honourable and what colour a man is, or which faith he follows has no bearing on whether he is good or evil.  Our heroine also has lessons to learn.  The respect she has earned from her employees is not reflected by everyone.  She must make some major changes if she is to be the woman she wants to be.  The wife of the man she loves.
Our author really draws us into the character's lives.  We feel every joy and all the sadness.  A marvellous story to get lost in.  I loved it.

Courageous Heart. (The Von Wolfenberg Dynasty #2) by Anna Markland. ARC Review.

Lute von Wolfenberg is the carefree middle son of the family with no responsibilities, but no prospects either. Obliged to fight in the army of the Holy Roman Emperor in a foreign war, he struggles to hold on to his sense of humor and optimism amid the betrayals and atrocities of the campaign. He finds himself drawn to Francesca di Cammarata, niece of the Emperor's arch enemy, Roger of Sicily.
She is an arrogant princess brought up in the lap of luxury whose duty lies in thwarting the imperial troops, but she cannot deny her feelings for Lute.
The conflict will test their loyalty to country and family

Luther Von Wolfenberg  along with his brothers have spent months travelling down from Germany to Italy to claim land in the name of their Holy Roman Emperor . None of them really want to be there but must do their sworn service. Lute has turned out to be a better soldier than he expected and has risen in the ranks.
Francesca di Cammarata is in the wrong place at the wrong time. She has taken shelter in a town that is just going to be over run by her uncle's enemies. She could be in terrible danger if the conquering army find out who she is.
This is a historical adventure romance. It's part of a series (Family saga) but easily read as a stand alone. Our hero is normally a happy go lucky man, but war has made him grow up fast. The woman who is the first to really stir him is one he cannot have. Our heroine is a very brave young woman with a talent for healing that has changed her life more than once.
A fascinating insight into the ways of war, life and death in 1137AD.  Our author has a way of making you really relate to her characters and understand the difficulties they face. A really enjoyable read.

Loyal Heart (The Von Wolfenberg Dynasty #1) by Anna Markland. ARC Review.

An impossible choice…love or family loyalty.
Book I of a brand new series from Anna Markland, The Von Wolfenberg Dynasty.

Sophia falls in love with a guest at her brother’s wedding, but he is an envoy sent by her father’s enemies.
Brandt intends to return home as soon as his unwelcome obligation to attend the wedding is fulfilled. It quickly becomes apparent he’ll be lucky to leave the celebrations alive.

In this time of uneasy peace, the last thing Brandt Rodermark wants is to act as his overlord's envoy. The wedding he must attend is for the son of a very important diplomat. Brandt must represent his Franconian overlords while the Saxons that they were, just a short time ago  at war with attend as well. With so many rulers in attendance it will be a very tense time.
Sophia Von Wolfenberg is the sister of the groom, and the bride is her very best friend. When it is realised that one side has sent an envoy instead of attending themselves it ruffles
the delicate balance of peace. Sophia's father must work hard to protect everyone in attendance at the festivities.

Once again our wonderful author breathes life into history. Keeping the reader involved in the exciting lives and loves of our heroes. Our heroine is an intelligent ,bold young woman who has been brought up in a loving family.  Our hero has more than his share of troubles and responsibilities, especially when the threat of war once more hangs over everyone.

Although this is part of a series you can easily read it as a stand alone. (It will tempt you to read the other books) .I look forward to the next book in the series, but I also want to know more about the lives of this books' protagonists.
