Say You´ll Love Me. by Ally Broadfield. My ARC Review.

She may be his favorite mystery...

All of Lady Abigail Hurst's dreams seem to be coming true when at long last her childhood sweetheart asks for her hand. But when a maid is found dead, and her betrothed is the chief suspect, Abigail begins to wonder just what manner of man she's marrying...

The Marquess of Longcroft, Edmund Townsend, has always preferred complex mathematical equations to the trappings of society. And love? Love is a non-quantifiable concept. Still, Lady Abigail is his sister's friend, and he finds himself drawn into the mystery of her affianced... even as he begins to anticipate Lady Abigail's company with unfathomable pleasure.

Investigating the murder may reveal more than the sordid truth. It may just reveal the love Abigail always wanted... a little too late.

Lady Abigail Hurst is at last getting engaged to Robert,  Viscount Hinsdale . Their fathers are best friends, and as the family estates are next door to each other , it has always been understood they would marry. Until Abigail witnessed a disturbing scene at their engagement ball, she was content to marry him. The next day a maid from Robert's family household is found murdered, and Abigail thinks it's possible Robert is involved. How can she marry a man with those doubts in her mind?
Edmond Townsend, the Marquess of Longcroft is the brother of Abigail's best friend. He is an intellectual, who would rather be calculating equations than mixing with people. But with six sisters to marry off he must be about in society. His sister and Abigail convince him to help find out if Robert is guilty of the maid's death.
This is a lovely innocent murder mystery, set in a time when the upper classes were not accountable to any but their peers. There was only bow street runners to investigate crimes. If Lords did not want to answer questions, they didn't have to. So unless there was definite proof, they are unlikely to be accused of a crime. A very entertaining light read.

Ally has worked as a horse trainer, director of marketing and development, freelance proofreader, and a children's librarian, among other things. None of them were as awesome as writing romance novels (though the librarian gig came closest). She lives in Texas and is convinced her house is shrinking, possibly because she shares it with three kids, five dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and assorted reptiles. Oh, and her husband.

Ally likes to curse in Russian because very few people know what she's saying, and spends most of what would be her spare time letting dogs in and out of the house and shuttling kids around. She has many stories in her head looking for an opportunity to escape onto paper. She writes historical romance set in Regency England and Imperial Russia.

About the novella:
Catherine Linwood is amongst the favored of Tudor Queen Mary–until her physician father dies mysteriously. She’s distraught, shunned and desperate for answers. Catherine's only ally is Sir Brandon FitzAlan...who is willing to risk his life to protect hers. While the handsome stranger’s courage and wit soon capture her heart, his true allegiance and purpose is uncertain.

Brand is well used to the lies and shadows of court. Yet nothing prepares him for his sizzling attraction to innocent Catherine, or the deadly plot she is tangled in, for her father took a secret to his grave that could tear Catholic England apart. With one chance at salvation, Brand and Catherine begin a cross-country journey that reveals the shocking truth...and a burning passion that could save or destroy them both.

Bloody Mary is on the throne.  It is dangerous time for many. Catherine is the daughter of the best physician in the realm. Catherine is in helping to sooth the pregnant Queen when news arrives of her father's death.
Brand goes to pay his respects at the grave of his friend, and meets Catherine  for the first time. He naturally offers her his services if they are ever needed.
Catherine then makes an innocent  request that puts them both in grave danger.
This is a action packed story. With some hot sex scenes. And lots of adventure.   Our unlikely hero is battling emotional demons from his past. He doesn't have any faith in himself. Our heroine is an intelligent, but innocent woman who is the victim of politics.
I loved this book and will look for more from this author.
