Oooh this is a very different type of thriller. 
Our heroine has multiple problems. She is trying to work herself through college,  to get to a good university.  She is very good with all things I.T.  But part of her is also a very naughty party girl. That is about to cause so many problems. She must sort out the men in her life if she is going to survive. I'm not sure who her hero is. Alex, or Bryson,  they both seem to love her but one is a very bad man. 
This story is funny,sexy,scary and completely compelling.  There is no way that I can miss the next instalment.

Never Smile at Strangers

 Since her brother's suicide Allie has been on her own. Using the only thing she has to live, her body.
Life as a fifteen year old Hooker is too much for her to handle, so she returns to her old house.
Child services soon catch her and she is handed over to a foster home.
Miss Bitty takes on Allie's care.  There must be a catch. Who could possibly want an ugly thing like her, the daughter and sister of murderers.
There is another serial killer in the area.  Nobody is quite whom they seem.
A very good psychological thriller. The trauma faced by the young girl is so realistic. The mental state of the killer and those around him can be scary to get into. A fascinating read, not for the faint hearted.

‘Don’t, Mark,’ I said as you grabbed Mum’s bottle of ‘sweets’, but you weren’t used to doing as you were told. She let you do whatever you wanted. Besides, you were too busy to listen to me. When you couldn’t unscrew the lid, you wrapped a tea-towel round it just like you had seen her do countless times before. I’ll never forget the look of triumph on your face when you finally got the top off.

‘Mum will be angry,’ I warned.

‘Don’t tell. Cross your heart and hope to die,’ you said. You were concentrating hard on removing the cotton wool stopper and tipping the pills into your hand. Too many for you to hold, you dropped some and watched as they skittered across the floor.

‘Damn!’

‘Ssch! That’s a bad word, Mark.’

‘Daddy says it,’ you replied, showing me your treasure. The sweets looked lemony, like they might taste of sherbet. Where was the harm? After all, Mum took them all the time and she was fine, sort of. Perhaps she said they’d make you ill because she wanted to keep them all for herself. I reached out to take one, my fingertips just brushing the smooth surface.

‘Dare you, Susan.’

‘No,’ I told you, standing back, knowing how cross Mum would be when she found out. ‘I’m not playing.’

I’d like to tell you what happened next but I can’t, Mark. Whatever it was, is hidden, masked by too many memories. It’s the reason I’m talking to you; I need you to help me discover what went on.

As I waited for Dad to come home, the only sound was the ticking of the clock, its black hands unstoppable, moving unstintingly around its hard, miserable face. I will never forget the exact moment he got home. The little hand was on the eight and the big hand just past the nine when I heard his key in the lock. Then I saw his face, which was one enormous gaping mouth when he spotted you on the floor and me curled up next to you, like a dog.

‘Mark’s asleep and he won’t wake up.’

‘What happened?’ he yelled from the hole in his face.

I wanted to tell him, I really did but the words were stuck. I pointed to Mum’s ‘sweets’ scattered across the scratched Linoleum like yellow polka dots. Fists clenched into weapons, eyes wild, Dad stood in the doorway, staring down at you. I had seen him angry many times but never like this. He ran over to you, looked like he was going to kneel down but then walked away. He paced the room, his eyes on you the whole time. I started crying, begging him to do something to wake you up.

‘Shut-up!’ he cried dashing into the hall. I thought he was phoning for help but I didn’t hear him speak to anyone. After what felt like forever, he came back and flung himself down beside you, forcing his fingers into your mouth. When he brought them out they were covered in slime. He wiped the stuff on his trousers, then pinched your tiny nose between his thumb and forefinger and put his mouth over yours, like he was about to give you a kiss. You still didn’t wake up and I watched in horror as he placed his massive hands on you, completely covering your chest, pushing down gently at first but when you didn’t open your eyes, pumping harder and harder, faster and faster.

‘Don’t!’ I screamed running over to try to pull him off you. ‘You’ll hurt him.’

‘He swatted me away and put his ear to your chest. Nothing. Silence. More silence than I had ever heard.

The emotional content of this book might make it difficult reading for some people. It starts with a horrific crime committed by the most evil of monsters. 
Allyn is just a normal woman working in a shop, until she is targeted for no reason. Three years later Allyn is still suffering from the traumatic events. She can not leave her house and has many panic attacks.  
Doctor Dominic Shriver comes to treat Allyn. He is just the help she needs, but it is still a long journey to complete mental health.  
This is a very emotional story that could help anyone who feels they have no hope of ever being well again.

This is a very interesting story about the life and death of a teenage girl. It is told from the girl's point of view . Her skeleton has been unearthed ten years after she disappeared.
Daina is an intelligent but tragic girl. She is trying desperately to keep up appearances and survive.   Her mother is an alcoholic, and barely knows her daughter is around. Daina is being viciously bullied at school.
There was an incident many years before that has a connection to what happened around the time of her death.
This is an emotional read that sadly could be very easily happening to someone out there now. The cruelty of bullies is often devastating. 

Ever since I was three year’s old I’ve been reading everything I can lay my hands on. It’s been my passion, my solace, my comfort. I used to look forward to Wednesday nights which were the time that my mother would take me, and any of my siblings who wanted to go – so usually just me, to the library.

It would be wonderful, thrilling, and risky. I was only able to take three books out each week, and only one of those could get a free pass on fees. If I picked the wrong one I would be stuck with it for a whole week. Not only stuck with it, but I’d have to read a bad book cover to cover because otherwise I’d have to do something else, and that was not really what I was after. I did go outside, and played outside, and watched TV like any normal kid, but that was just stuff you filled in time with until you could read again.

Throughout my childhood there was never anything I wanted to do but become a writer – it seemed the only natural progression to my life. Then I crawled inside a bottle for fourteen years, and when I popped back out I was working in an office job in a travel agency, my mother was dead, and I was clueless as to how I was meant to get my life back on track.

About the time I started to seriously study the craft of writing, something that used to come naturally to me but had grown incredibly hard through lack of use, I also had a change in career path into insurance (not as big a change as it might seem as it was really from one office job to another with a brighter future and better career path.) I started to challenge myself in my professional life, and my personal life, so instead of focussing in on writing I instead tried out a range of different hobbies, followed up on fleeting interests, tried to learn to play the saxophone which my partner was glad was a short-lived affair, and generally did all of the things I should’ve spent my teens and twenties doing but hadn’t.

But of course I always circled back to writing. Reading and writing. My passion remains the same but instead of skimming widely across any and all genres I’ve narrowed down and done a deep-dive into crime fiction which has been my favourite for over a decade now.

I love the fact that I’ve been reading the same genre of fiction for more than ten years now, and still find new and interesting things with every book that I pick up. Now I’m trying to bring something new and unique to me to the genre. And soon I might finally get back on track to being the person that I always wanted to be.
