Add To

When trust is betrayed, forgiveness is the only redemption.

Seven years ago, Alice de Grecy's father bullied her into breaking her engagement to businessman Ross Trelawney, an act which left her heartbroken. Now recovering from an abusive marriage to a duke who died in violent circumstances, she finds herself an object of gossip among the ton. Terrified at the notion of remarriage, she spends her time volunteering at a shelter for abused women. When she meets Ross again, their bitter encounter is a reminder of what she has lost.

After Alice rejected him, Ross vowed to marry for convenience, not love. Now widowed with a young daughter, a chance meeting with Alice reignites old passions, but the last thing he needs in his life is the woman he's spent seven years trying to forget.

When Alice's ambitious father arranges her marriage to a viscount twice her age, Alice and Ross seem destined to be apart. Ross must conquer his demons if he does not wish to lose Alice forever, and Alice must learn to trust again if she is to find happiness.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Alice De Grecy is back home in the less than gentle hands of her father,  after two years in an asylum.  She was sent there after problems with her now dead husband.  After years of abuse Alice is hoping for peace,  but that is not to be.
Ross Trelawney has only ever loved one woman.  She broke his heart years ago when she prefered to marry a Duke.  Perhaps she deserves her title as the deranged duchess.
A very emotional story that could contain triggers for some people.  Our heroine has suffered horrific abuse and that takes time to recover from. Our hero has no idea what has been happening and can easily make matters worse.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Frederica Stanford has been obsessed with the boy next-door nearly all her life.  That put her in grave danger at one point and she still suffers from the after effects.  Now many years later her affections haven't changed but she knows she's not of his class and will never be good enough for him.
Viscount Hawthorne Stiles has always, known about the little girl who watched him,  but he ignored her until the day his friends went too far in their teasing.  The shame of that day will stay with him for years.
Our heroine is an incredibly strong woman with unshakable faith in those she loves.  She will sacrifice anything for them.
I have never disliked a so called hero of a book as much as this one.  He is selfish,  stubborn stuffed full of his own importance.  Considering his duties as a Magistrate he really should be more observant. I really don't see what our fabulous heroine sees in him.
I did need the tissues for the more emotional times.  There were also times I would have gladly slapped the hero.
A very enjoyable story.  I loved it.

Soon, Henry’s investigation into a profitable slave ring draws him and his associates into danger. When Jeanette’s inquisitive nature leads her to become caught up in it, Henry must reveal his heart or lose all that he holds dear.

Can a ruined woman and a renowned rake find love in their unlikely union?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Miss Jeanette Claybone hates the so called high society her family has been recently elevated to.  Especially because her mother is pushing her to find a titled husband when all she wants is an ordinary man to love her. The "ton" look down their noses at her and never miss a chance to belittle her.
Henry Drayton,  the Marquess of Ravenwell is one of the most sought after bachelors in town and a well known rake.  His superior attitude encourages his friends to follow the worst of his behavior. They don't know what he is really up to.
There is something evil happening in London but nobody seems to care because it's just the whores that are suffering.
This is an incredibly emotional story where I wanted to smack the hero so often.  How our poor heroine puts up with all that emotional abuse shows how brave and strong she is.  There is a reason behind it all and it will change many lives.
Keep the tissues handy.
A thoroughly enjoyable read.
