Highland Temptation (Highland Knights #3) by Jennifer Haymore. ARC Review.

Add To

Jennifer Haymore’s sweeping Highland Knights series is perfect for readers of Maya Banks, Monica McCarty, and Sabrina Jeffries—and as the saga resumes, one of Scotland’s most steadfast warriors shields a broken beauty while she soothes the pain in his soldier’s heart.

When Lady Emilia Featherstone discovers that her despicable father has been scheming against the crown, she turns to the Highland Knights for protection—and retribution. Spirited away to a safe house on the outskirts of London, Emilia is surprised to find herself sharing close quarters with a soft-spoken, musclebound Highlander. Before long, curiosity gives way to an alarming attraction. Emilia has learned firsthand from her father that men are not to be trusted. She just never met one so honorable and loyal, so powerful and, yes, tempting.

Ever since Waterloo, Colin Stirling has struggled with memories that haunt him night and day. Driven near to madness, he no longer trusts himself with meaningful relationships of any kind. At least in this temporary sanctuary, Colin can withdraw from the world—that is, until his stunningly gorgeous charge learns the full depth of his pain. In Emilia, Colin sees a kindred spirit with battle scars of her own. He also senses a chance to heal . . . and to find love.

Lady Emilia  Featherstone is an abused daughter of a Lord involved in treason.  She stumbles into the home of the Highland Knights hoping for help.
Sir Colin Stirling is one of the Highland Knights a group of Scotsmen sworn to work for the Crown.  He is an emotionally wounded warrior who suffers from PTSD .  The result of imprisonment ,and many deaths in the war.
The tale Emilia has to tell could upset the the politics of England for ever.
A wonderful, action packed, historical romance, and a fascinating journey to Scotland.  All the characters are well developed and people you would love to know. This is from a series that is best read in order.  Although you could enjoy it read on it's own.  I have read the other stories, and have enjoyed all of them.  I look forward to enjoying the ones still to come.

Highland Awakening. (Highland Knights #2) by Jennifer Haymore. ARC Review.

For fans of Maya Banks and Monica McCarty, the Highland Knights series continues as a tight-knit band of Scottish mercenaries make trouble on the mean streets of London . . . and under the sheets with England’s proper young women.

As the secret author of racy romances, Lady Esme Hawkins goes to great lengths to protect her family’s honor. Which is why she carefully disguises herself before entering a notorious bordello to do research. But when Esme comes face-to-face with a brooding Highland bodyguard, she can’t easily refuse a harmless kiss . . . a kiss that inflames desires ripped from the pages of her novels. Acting on them, however, would risk revealing Esme’s identity—and the fact that she’s engaged to another man.

As a Highland Knight sworn to protect the crown, Camden McLeod never expected to follow his client into a bordello—nor could he anticipate meeting a bright, innocent lass with lush lips and eyes the color of the sea. Instantly, Cam knows he must possess her. But to do so, he’ll need to give up his rakish ways, embrace his role as heir to his despised father, and snuff out a deadly threat to his brothers in arms. By comparison, winning Esme away from her insipid fiancé will be pure pleasure.

This historical romance nearly melted my kindle. It is part of a series, but you could easily read it as a stand alone. It does mention others from previous books who have had their HEA so it might spoil those books just a little.
Camden MacLeod is one of the Highland Knights, they work for the crown in whatever way they are told, usually in secret. At the moment they are bodyguards and must sometimes mingle with the ton.  A lot of two faced people he can't stand being around.  Cam is not very well suited to this type of work, he much prefers the action side.
Lady Esme Hawkins is shy and often clumsy.  Her family have faced a lot of malicious gossip, and Esme always seems to make it worse. If anyone knew about what she does in secret it would shame them more than ever before.
I don't want to tell you too much more of the story because it has lots of twists and turns. There are some scorching hot sex scenes and lots of fun. A strong, brave but a bit dense hero,  and a brave and bold heroine. I loved every page.

Highland Heat. ( Highland Knights #1) by Jennifer Haymore. ARC Review.

Perfect for readers of Maya Banks and Monica McCarty, Jennifer Haymore’s seductive new Highland Knights series begins with an electrifying tale of class warfare, fierce loyalties, and forbidden love.

With blood still drying on the front lines at Waterloo, Lady Grace Carrington helps an injured soldier to a British medical tent. Though she believes she’s pulled him to safety, in fact she has put them both in grave danger: Because when his brilliant blue eyes meet hers, the passionate Scottish sergeant kisses her in a way that leaves her breathless and trembling. As the obedient daughter of an earl, Grace shouldn’t be tempted by someone so far below her station. But as a red-blooded woman, she longs for so much more.

As far as Duncan Mackenzie is concerned, getting stabbed in the arm was the best thing that ever happened to him. When he wakes on the battlefield, the sight of Grace’s lovely face sets his soul aflame. As an enlisted man and a farmer’s son, however, pursuing his guardian angel means facing the wrath of London society, not to mention his own superiors in the British Army. Aye, but he’d risk all that and more just to keep her in his arms.

Lady Grace Carrington is searching the devastation of the Waterloo battlefield for anyone that could be helped. The carnage is almost unbelievable. So many dead and wounded.
Sergeant Duncan Mackenzie comes back to his senses when Grace stops near him. What is such an aristocratic woman doing trudging through the blood and mud?
An attraction grows between them, but there is no way a simple Scottish soldier and the daughter of an Earl could be together without ruining her and dishonouring his commanding officer, who is Grace's brother in law.
A very emotional tale of the after effects of war, and the bravery and honour of even the lower ranks. This book made a nice change from the usual type of story where the higher ranked person is the man. A woman in those times, even when she has a loving family could not control who would be acceptable to them.
A very enjoyable read, full of danger,  excitement and some hot sex scenes.
