Lord of the Sky (Executioner Knights #6) by Kathryn Le Veque. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

1217 A. D. – Executioner Knight Kevin de Lara finally has his moment to shine.

Kevin breaks out from under his powerful brother's shadow (Sean de Lara from Lord of the Shadows) and becomes a great knight on his own. But there's just one problem... the woman he loves may very well cause his downfall...

Since reconciling with his brother, Kevin has become a powerful garrison commander along the Welsh marches for the de Lara empire. As an agent of William Marshal, his directive is to keep the local Welsh barons under control at all costs, and Kevin becomes a diplomat.

But the Welsh lords only tell him what he wants to hear. Secretly, they are planning a rebellion to gain back de Lara properties they believe belong to the Welsh.

Juliandra ferch Gethin is a daughter of two worlds – a Welsh father, an English mother.

Juliandra’s father has committed an offense against the de Lara empire and has consequently been jailed. When Juliandra disguises herself as a servant and sneaks into the castle to free her father, she can’t get past Kevin. When he discovers her true identity, he formulates a plan to marry her simply to keep her father and his allies under control. It’s a tactic and nothing more.

Or so he thinks.

Sometimes the arrogance of a man is only exceeded by his love for a woman.

Join Kevin and Juliandra on their journey of rebellion, redemption, and the realization of a love that cannot be denied. Kevin married Juliandra to control the Welsh, but it’s very possible that she may be the one controlling the English… through him.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kevin de Lara is now a commander in his own right.  He has three castles on the Welsh marches and has just taken control of one just inside Wales.  The locals are not happy to have an Englishman around especially when he costs them money.  Our hero is an emotional and extremely honourable man.  Years of working for the devious William Marshall have made a mark on him that he struggles with.
Juliandra ferch Gethin is the daughter of a wealthy merchant.  Our heroine is a strong woman,  used to having control of her own life.  When she finds herself in a predicament she knows there are ways to solve it.
A man with a powerful obsession and access to an army can cause a lot of dangerous problems.
Our author certainly knows how to put our emotions on a rollercoaster.  Before you pick up this book make sure you have nothing else to do,  because you will not be able to put it down.  You will need tissues.  You will meet many old friends from other books and one naughty young Squire with a big future.  I now want to see what he gets up to next.
I absolutely love all of this author's work.  The characters always have such depth you want to know about every aspect of their lives.
I loved every page.

Caius d'Avignon, the knight known as The Britannia Viper, finds himself on the opposite side of William Marshal... and the Executioner Knights are caught in the middle...

Welcome to another Executioner Knights' tale!

When Caius d’Avignon is sent north at the request of a cousin of William Marshal to help in a dispute between neighbors, Caius couldn’t have imagined how his life would change.

Caius is one of the Marshal’s premier knights, a man who served in The Levant with many of the Marshal’s agents, but he had one distinct difference – he’d been branded The Britannia Viper by the Saracen commanders for his hard strike. There is no one fiercer in battle. Therefore, William Marshal has great confidence that Caius will solve the situation – if not by diplomacy, then by the sword.

But Caius is caught off-guard by the situation when he arrives. The Marshal’s cousin is an unscrupulous and cruel man who has all but decimated his neighbors and demands they be destroyed. When Caius goes to speak to the neighbors to demand their unconditional surrender, the first thing he sees is a woman of astounding beauty.

Emelisse de Thorington is that woman.

Caius is drawn into the feud whether or not he wants to be. He comes to discover that the Marshal’s cousin is wicked and has harassed a noble family for years while telling William Marshal something quite different. The man is a thief and a liar.

But Caius can’t tell the Marshal that without jeopardizing his relationship with the man. There’s also the not-so-small fact that he’s fallen in love with the strong but battered Emelisse.

Will the career knight choose love over his career?

Find out in yet another exciting Executioner Knights adventure!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Caius d`Avignon was enjoying some down time in a tavern with his fellow Knights when he is called back to duty. When William Marshall gives an order all his men know to obey.
This task is to investigate and possibly mediate a complicated family matter.
Emelisse de Thorington is caught up in a nightmare that has taken three years to come to a head.  For no reason she knows of, their neighbours started to harass her family's holdings.  Now it has turned deadly.
Our hero is one of the best and most deadly Knights in the land.  He will find himself in a morally difficult position, to follow his orders or his heart. The biggest often fall harder and quicker than lesser men when it comes to love.
Our brave heroine will defend her home before herself.
An action packed historical adventure romance.  There is danger, political intrigue and even some laughs in this story.  A lot of the characters will be known to readers of this author's work but this book will not spoil any of the others.
As usual with any of this author's books, you will be hooked from the first page until the end.
I loved every page.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Cristin de Lara might only be eighteen years old but she's already been working as a spy for William Marshall for two years.  Her nickname is the Ghost because she never leaves a trace.  However with her father coming to an important event where she will be working, she will have to be even more careful. If he finds out what she's been doing he'll take her home and lock her up to keep her safe.
Alexander Sherrington also works for William Marshall . He is one of the Executioner Knights,  with a reputation as the most deadly.  They are all working to protect England against all threats, and they are sometimes from surprising people.
This is an absolutely wonderful story.  So much excitement and adventure.  Our heroine is happy in her work and very good at it.  She also knows how important it is to work as a team. The things she does will have you and her fellow characters in stitches.  We get to meet up with lots of old friends and great heroes from other books.
As usual this author has us going from giggling to crying,  sometimes in unexpected places. I have bags under my eyes today because I could not put the book down until I finished it in the early hours of the morning.
Absolutely Fantastic.

You met Achilles and Susanna in Book Two of the Executioner Knights series – and sparks flew! Now, read their endearing and touching love story in ‘Starless’!

The third Executioner Knight is in for a world of trouble…

Achilles de Dere is a stubborn knight prone to fighting - anywhere, anytime. If there is a punch to be thrown, it's usually from Achilles. When he first met Susanna de Tiegh, the sparks flew – and not in a good way. Susanna, an accomplished warrior in her own right and an agent for William Marshal, Earl of Pembroke, refused to take Achilles’ bullying behavior. Friends feared they would kill one another. But an abject hatred of each other soon turned into something else.

Now, Susanna is all Achilles can think of, even as he goes about his duties for William Marshal. When Susanna discovers that her own brother is involved in a plot against the king, Achilles is sent to help her get to the bottom of the plot. Before he can get to the woman he calls “Sparks”, however, Susanna’s brother realizes she is on to him and sells her off to one of the crown’s greatest enemies to silence her.

Now, Achilles is determined to help the woman warrior who started off as a thorn in his side, but has now become the very air he breathes. It’s a race against time to not only save Susanna, but to stop the plot that threatens to destroy the very fabric of England herself.

As Achilles once said to Susanna, without her in his life, his days are wrought with misery and his nights are Starless…

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sir Achillies de Dere is one of the Executioner Knights . They are sworn to serve William Marshall and England.  They have just finished one assignment and are taking one of their party home to recover.
Susanna de Tiegh is a female warrior who has worked as a bodyguard for years.  She is also a spy in William Marshall's service.  She has been wounded and needs time to recover.
The time she has spent in the company of these Knights has at last earned her the respect she is due.  No man wants to think that a woman,  no matter where she trained or who she works for could possibly best him in a fight.  They soon learn.
The easy journey soon turns nasty.  We get lots of battles and a good few giggles.  I was surprised that there was no crying.  ( our author usually makes a habit of that) The dynamic between our characters is fabulous.  Bravery,  strength, honour and beauty,  they have it all.
This book is part of a series and as such if you intend to read them all you should read them in order,  but each book can be read on it's own.  An absolutely great historical adventure romance.  I can't wait for the next in the series.
I loved every page.

Kress de Rhydian is a man on a mission.

The second Executioner Knight is off to Wales with a very important directive –William Marshal is determined to make a match between a Welsh princess and one of King John’s greatest enemies, thereby strengthening the growing rebellion against John.

Outwardly, William Marshal supports the king but behind the man’s back, he is now plotting against the man. John is doing more harm to England and it is clear he must be removed from the throne with a king suitable for England’s rule.
The Marshal wants John gone, but on his own terms.

With a political marriage in mind, William Marshal sends Kress into Wales to escort Cadelyn ferch Rhys from her home, known as Mynydd Twywll (Mountain Dark), back to Chepstow Castle for the marriage. Cadelyn is one of the last full-blooded Welsh princesses, a very valuable commodity. Fearing Kress will side with the Welsh princess, William betroths Kress to another woman and sends him away before the princess can destroy the life of a stalwart young English knight.

Sir Kress de Rhydian is one of the Executioner Knights.  They earned their reputation by doing any dirty job the King or their leige lord asked of them.  This time looks to be an easy task. Escort a woman to her betrothed,  even if she doesn't want to go.
Cadelyn ferch Rhys only found out about her true bloodlines a short while ago.  Now she is to be used as a political pawn.  She had been hoping for a normal life with a man of her choosing to marry and writing her poems for fun.
There is a grand adventure for both of them.  The plans of others will put so many people in danger all for greed.
This is a wonderful tale full of excitement and fun.  Those of us who have read this author's work before will meet a few old friends and one interfering Marshal who nearly always starts the problems.  Will he get his way this time???
I loved every page.

Spies. Killers. Gentleman knights. Medieval England is about to face the Unholy Trinity.

You read about them in 'Lord of Winter'. Now discover Book One in 2019's exciting new Medieval series!

1200 A.D. - In the time following the death of Richard the Lionheart and the ascension of his brother, John, to the throne of England, a plot against the new king is hatched from an unexpected place – deep within the bowels of The Lateran Palace in Rome. It is rumored that the Pope himself is behind it. It is a plot so dark, and so dastardly, that William Marshal needs men who specialize in dark and dirty games in order to save a king they all hate, yet a king that England desperately needs.

The Marshal needs the men known as The Unholy Trinity -the Executioner Knights.

Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is the leader of this unholy band of cutthroats. A big man with dark hair and dark eyes, Maxton fostered in the finest houses, but there is something unsettling about him. He is a man who easily kills without remorse, and he never questions an order, no matter how unsavory it is. William Marshall tasks Maxton and his comrades with seeking out the papal assassins, and the duty soon becomes a high-stakes game of chess, with checkmate being the life of the King of England.

Enter Lady Andressa du Bose. A great heiress who was cheated out of her inheritance by a conniving aunt, Andressa has spent unhappy and bitter years serving in the convent she was essentially sold to. A chance meeting with Maxton introduces Andressa to a world she wants to be part of, and a man she is greatly attracted to, but in that meeting, she has unknowingly given Maxton a lead on something he very much wants – a clue to who the assassins really are. All signs point to papal operatives. Maxton has a job to do and he’ll use anyone he can to complete it, including the lovely pledge who is increasingly on his mind… and in his heart.

Join Maxton and Andressa in a deadly game of cat and mouse, where all is not what it seems, and even those most devout can sometimes hold a terrible secret. It soon becomes clear that Maxton must make a choice… give in to his feelings for Andressa, or save a king, and with that, England’s sovereignty.

It’s a showdown of good against evil, and the power of love against a knight’s sense of duty, in this larger-than-life Medieval Romance.

Note: Read Lord of Winter by Kathryn Le Veque as a prequel to this series!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Sir Maxton of Loxbeare is one of England's most skilled Knights.  Since the end of the Crusades he and his friends have been mercenaries,  sometimes taking jobs nobody else could do.  However there is a line he will not cross.
Lady Andressa du Bose has been sent to a convent by her Aunt , so the woman can use her inheritance.  The convent has an evil Mother Superior. Her nuns live in constant fear and hunger.
This is a fantastic book,  absolutely filled with political intrigue,  danger and great characters.  Our hero is not a good man but he seems to be growing a conscience. Our terrified heroine seems timid,  but has got nerves of steel.
I won't say too much more about the plot because I don't want to spoil it for you.  Just know that before you start reading you should make sure you lock everybody out and make yourself comfortable,  because you will NOT be able to put it down.  I was awake until 1:30am to finish it.
I loved every page and can't wait to read the next in the series.
