Mollys Misadventures. by D.E.Haggerty. Comedy Romance ARC Review.

I’m having the suckiest day ever. First, my father, aka Mr. Grumpy Pants, calls to say his nurse just walked out on him. Likely story. I rush home to pack, only to walk in on my husband getting it on with his younger, skanky secretary. Unfortunately, my quick weekend trip home to fix Dad’s problems turns into a stay of a few weeks. Luckily, I’ve got Danny, the neighbor boy I’ve had a crush on since I was a dorky, braces-wearing, nose-buried-in-a-book teenager, and a brand-spanking new blog to keep my mind off things. Before I know it, I’m writing product reviews of vibrators and getting questioned by a store rent-a-cop at the world’s worst date ever. All while trying to figure out how to take things with Danny to the next level. Not to complicate things or anything, but my boss decides to give me an ultimatum—come back in four weeks or don’t come back at all. How in the world did my life get so complicated? (

This book is not my usual flavour, but I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would.
It was just like having a good gossip with your best friend.
At thirty five years old Molly Smith has her life all sorted. Married, good job, own house and money. Then one phone call from her ailing father starts an avalanche of events that turn her life upside down. How does she sort out all her problems? Is her teenage crush next door the man to help her now?  Get a glass of wine and settle down for a good gossip, lots of laughs  and find out.
A very enjoyable read.

I grew up reading everything I could get my hands on from my mom’s Harlequin romances to Nancy Drew to Little Women. When I wasn’t flipping pages in a library book, I was penning horrendous poems, writing songs no one should ever sing, or drafting stories which have thankfully been destroyed. College and a stint in the U.S. Army came along, robbing me of free time to write and read, although I did manage every once in a while to sneak a book into my rucksack between rolled up socks, MRIs, t-shirts, and cold weather gear. A few years into my legal career, I was exhausted, fed up, and just plain done. I quit my job and sat down to write a manuscript, which I promptly hid in the attic after returning to the law. Another job change, this time from lawyer to B&B owner and I was again fed up and ready to scream I quit, which is incredibly difficult when you own the business. Thus, I shut the B&B during the week and in the off-season and started writing. Several books later I find myself in Istanbul writing full-time.

My name is Izzy. I drink too much, am clumsier than a newborn foal, and my brain-to-mouth filter often malfunctions. My daredevil husband killed himself in a parachuting accident five years ago and my best friend Jack has decided it’s time I jump back in the dating pool. He’s perfectly happy to throw me in if I don’t listen. Just when things in the dating world start to heat up, my grandma dies. Only her knitting group of Jessica Fletcher wannabes is sure it’s murder. I’m not convinced but I’m always up for a bit of excitement as long as it doesn’t lead to a night in jail. Well, more than one night anyway. Will I miss my chance at love because I’m chasing imaginary killers? Did someone really kill grandma or am I and my merry band of geriatric thieves imagining things?

The first ‘date’ starts off well. His name is Ed. He’s not drooling or anything, is talking to me and not my boobs, and seems to be interested in my graphic design work. Maybe Jack was right after all. I need to get myself back into the dating game.
So,” Ed says after we’ve exchanged the usual pleasantries and some small talk. He leans forward and starts to whisper. “How do you feel about whips and chains?”
Not the appropriate moment to be sipping my wine, but how could I have expected that! I choke and spit a bit of wine into Ed’s face, which seems to excite him. He wiggles his eyebrows. “I take it that’s a yes?” He asks eagerly.
Um no. That’s a definite no. N.O.” I lift my glass and down the remainder of my wine. The bell rings and I yell loudly “Next!”
Ed looks disappointed as he walks to the next table, but I’ve got my eyes on the prize. A cocktail waitress is headed my way. I snag another glass of wine before turning to my next date. Oh dear lord! The man is older than grandma. He struggles to lower himself in the chair opposite mine.
There goes that annoying bell again. Time to put my game face on. I smile and decide that I’ll check this guy out for grandma. She could use a date. Although to be perfectly honest, I don’t remember her going out with a man – ever. There’s no time like the present.
The old man’s name is Wilbert and the five minutes pass pleasantly enough. As long as I pretend he’s dating grandma and not trying to pick me up. When the bell rings again, I rush from my chair to help Wilbert stand. I take his elbow and guide him to his next date – a girl that could be his great granddaughter.
I sit back down and gather my courage for my next winner. I try to smile at the guy across from me, really I do. But have you ever tried to smile at a man with the biggest comb over ever? Let me tell you, it’s not easy. I may be grimacing a tiny bit.
Mr. Combover leans over and leers at me. Yes, leers at me! His eyes are surgically attached to my boobs. True, I have good boobs, but maybe pay a bit of attention to the person attached to the boobs?
Finally done leering, he leans back and takes in my face. “You’re not the youngest anymore.” Really? That’s the first thing Mr. Combover is going to say?
I could say the same about you,” I respond in my nasty voice. This voice I’d perfected from nagging my lazy ass husband.
Mr. Combover clears his throat and leans in again. I bend backwards as far as possible in my chair, but he’s undeterred. “So, I’m just gonna get this out there and not waste my time.” At this point, I should raise one eyebrow, but, as we’ve established, I can’t do that so I just stare at him. “Do you put out? ‘Cuz if not, I ain’t got time for you.”
Oh no, he didn’t. “What,” I sputter and grab for my wine glass, which I down in one go. Never said I was a classy lady.
Do. You. Put. Out?” Yes, he really enunciates it like I didn’t understand him the first time.

I was born and raised in Wisconsin, but think I’m a European. After spending my senior year of high school in Germany, I developed a bad case of wanderlust that is yet to be cured. My flying Dutch husband and I have lived in Ohio, Virginia, the Netherlands, Germany and now Istanbul. We still haven’t decided if we want to settle down somewhere – let alone where. Although I’ve been a military policewoman, a commercial lawyer, and a B&B owner, I think with writing I may have finally figured out what I want to be when I grow up. That’s assuming I ever grow up, of course. Between tennis, running, traveling, singing off tune, drinking entirely too many adult beverages, and reading books like they are going out of style, I write articles for a local expat magazine and various websites, review other indie authors’ books, write a blog about whatever comes to mind and am working on my fifth book.

This book is sure to put a smile on your face. It is so much fun. I liked the fact that it has a heroine slightly older than most books, and her "partners in crime " are pensioners and her B.F.F. who is a super hot gay man.
Izzy Archer's best friend drags her out to a speed dating night that quickly turns into a disaster.  The next date he sets her up on is even worse. Dating is not something she has any practice with, she married her college sweetheart and he has been her only lover. Izzy adopted her husband's grandmother and still has a wonderful relationship with her, and her friends.
With the death of one of their own the ladies are convinced it's murder and will not be stopped from investigating.
Add into this mix a sensible and hot detective who is prepared to listen to  and protect those involved.
A great clean fun read. Now I want to read Jack's story.

Blurb:

Why would a woman who has it all throw her life away? Morgan has the perfect life. She married the man of her dreams. Daniel is smart, gorgeous and successful. Everything she has always wanted in a husband and the father of her children. But he’s also overprotective, jealous, and domineering. Is living with him enough to drive Morgan over the edge? Or does something more treacherous lurk beneath the façade?

Morgan

A gorgeous, sweet woman that is oblivious to her own beauty. She’s shy with men, but a rock to her friends. A librarian in a small town in the mid-west. She’s been waiting a long-time to find the one.

Daniel

An accountant in the city who will do anything to be the youngest partner in his firm. He always gets what he wants and he wants Morgan. He will pursue Morgan until she submits.

Together

They rush through a courtship and marry within a year of meeting. Morgan’s life is perfect. She has a job she loves, a best friend for which she would do anything and a husband that completes her. But things are not often as they appear. Behind closed doors the loving Daniel that Morgan married is jealous and overprotective. Sometimes he’s even domineering.

The Culmination

Morgan runs away – destroying everything in her path as she disappears. What made this good girl go bad?

Excerpt:

Morgan was still obsessed with Daniel’s locked office door the next day at the library. Instead of getting busy with her overload of work, she stared at her computer, trying to work, but not accomplishing anything as the words on her computer blurred together.

Did you hear?” Dawn shouted as she breezed into Morgan’s office. Morgan startled at the sound of Dawn’s voice and shook her head to force the fog from her head.

Jeez, Dawn, you scared me.” Morgan held her hand over her beating-out-of-control heart.

Dawn came over to Morgan’s desk, shaking a newspaper in her hand. “Did you see this?”

Morgan had no idea what in the newspaper could be getting Dawn so excited. “What are you talking about you?” She asked on a sigh.

Dawn opened the newspaper and laid it over the mess on Morgan’s desk. “Look,” she said pointing to a column in the crime section. Morgan waved her hand over the newspaper, caught up in her own drama and uninterested in a stranger’s drama. “Just tell me.”

There’s been another rape,” Dawn was nearly shouting.

Another rape? What are you talking about?”

Dawn sighed and crossed her arms. “Don’t you remember? There was a rape at that fancy hotel in Milwaukee a while back. And now there’s been another one!”

That’s horrible.” Morgan sank into her chair. Dawn sat down across from her. She picked up the newspaper again. “It was at another hotel in downtown Milwaukee, but they’re withholding the location as they don’t want to scare anyone.” She continued to scan the story. “They’re calling it date rape. Don’t you hate that? Rape is rape. No is no.”

Morgan nodded. Based on personal experience, she could vehemently agree. Dawn went back to reciting the facts from the article. “It says the woman was picked up in some bar and then they went back to her hotel room. The victim, whose identity is protected, claims she tried to fight off the assailant, but at 5’4” the victim didn’t have much chance. The victim’s long hair was ripped from her head in places and her glasses were destroyed in the struggle.

Morgan shuddered. “Dawn, that’s enough. We need to get to work.” She pulled herself together and shooed Dawn out of her office. She locked her office door behind Dawn and sank to the floor. Taking deep breaths, she tried to fight the guilt clawing at her. In desperate need of reassurance from a loved one, she stood and went to her bag for her phone. Daniel had left that morning for some conference. Although she was desperate to call him, she didn’t want to anger him by disturbing him and settled for texting – hoping he would respond.

About the Author:
D.E. Haggerty was born and raised in Wisconsin but thinks she’s a European. After spending her senior year of high school in Germany, she developed a bad case of wanderlust that is yet to be cured. After high school she returned to the U.S. to go to college ending up with a Bachelor’s degree in History at the tender age of 20 while still managing to spend time bouncing back and forth to Europe during her vacations. Unable to find a job after college and still suffering from wanderlust, she joined the U.S. Army as a Military Policewoman for 5 years. While stationed in Heidelberg, Germany, she met her future husband, a flying Dutchman. After being given her freedom from the Army, she went off to law school. She finished law school and moved to the Netherlands with her husband and became a commercial lawyer for more than a decade. During a six month break from the lawyering world, she wrote her first book, Unforeseen Consequences. Although she finished the book, she went back to the law until she could no longer take it and upped stakes and moved to Germany to start a B&B. Three years after starting the B&B, she got the itch and decided to pull the manuscript for Unforeseen Consequences out of the attic and get it published as an e-book. Deciding that she may have indeed finally found what she wanted to do with her life, she went on to write Buried Appearances. After moving to Istanbul, she started on Life Discarded, her third book. Between tennis, running, traveling, singing off tune and reading books like they are going out of style, she writes articles for a local expat magazine and various websites, reviews other indie authors’ books, writes a blog about whatever comes to mind and is working on her fourth book.
