Word of Honor. (Knights Of Valor #1) by Lauren Linwood. ARC Review.

Merryn Mantel and Geoffrey de Montfort have loved each other since childhood. Once betrothed, Geoffrey leaves for the wars in France for five long years. Upon his return, the two marry and spend one blissful night consummating their love and making plans for their future.

But her new husband vanishes the next day without a trace. Merryn grieves for almost seven years—and then Geoffrey returns to her—changed from the boy and man she knew and worshipped. This stranger refuses to reveal where he has been and why he stayed away for so long.

Will her husband’s silence create a rift too large to heal, or can Merryn and Geoffrey recapture the love they once shared?

I am having trouble thinking how I can describe this book without giving away too much of the story line.
Geoffrey de Montfort and Merryn Mantel have been betrothed since they were children, and both are very happy about it. After the wedding something happens because of Geoffrey's actions in his service to the crown. This will cause years of heartache.
Our heroine has a lot to deal with, but is incredibly strong. For a woman to deal with all she does in the era this story is set in,  is unusual.  Noble  women of that time are either protected or considered as no more than pawns to be used in political manoeuvres.  Our hero ,after what happens to him takes a long time to recover mentally. He is a man to whom honour is everything. When he gives his word of honour nothing will induce him to break it, no matter who it hurts. He will suffer from a form of PTSD.
We have a despicable villain in this story whose actions will taint many. The involvement of the crown only makes this a more complicated tale.
A fascinating historical romance with the flavour of a romantic suspense. Fully developed characters that you immediately feel for. Our heroine is definitely the strongest in the story. Without her our hero would fade into the unknown.
I loved every page.

As a child, Lauren Linwood gathered her neighborhood friends together and made up stories for them to act out, her first venture into creating memorable characters. Following her passion for history and love of learning, she became a teacher who began writing on the side to maintain her sanity in a sea of teenage hormones.

Lauren’s historical novels focus on two of her favorite eras—medieval times and the American Old West. History is the backdrop that places her characters in extraordinary circumstances, where their intense desire and yearning for one another grows into the treasured gift of love. She also writes romantic suspense, where modern heroes and heroines unite to defeat a strong antagonist and discover a deep, abiding love during their journey.

Lauren, a native Texan, lives in a Dallas suburb with her family. An avid reader, moviegoer, and sports fan, she manages stress by alternating yoga with five mile walks. She is thinking about starting a support group for House Hunters addicts—as soon as she finishes her next piece of dark chocolate.

I appreciate hearing that, Petula! Could I ask a huge favor of you? (Other than hoping you'll want to read Raynor & Beatrice's story, which comes out in 2 days!)

I thought you hadn't liked the story much when I saw you gave it 2/5 stars up above. Might that be a mistake? I saw on Amazon where you gave it 5 stars. Just wanted to check with you. Didn't know if you rated novels tougher on your blog!
