Bayou Nights. (Haunting Desires #2) by Julie Mulhern. ARC Review.

New Orleans, 1903.

Before he died, Christine Lambert’s father won a piece of eight in a poker game. How was he to know the coin was part of a puzzle that when solved revealed the location of Jean Laffite’s treasure? Now Christine must find the treasure before the killer beats her to it.

Matthias Blake is as out of place in New Orleans as a raven in a flock of hummingbirds. He has serious work to do and Christine is a distraction he doesn’t need. But how can he resist a lady in distress—even if that lady can win a fight armed with a hat pin? Together they must overcome their pasts and defeat dark forces sent by a shadowy evil. In the process, they just might find the greatest treasure of all…

Christine Lambert's father has gone missing. She has asked a friend to send help finding him. The fact that her father is dead doesn't mean she can stop worrying about him.
Mattias Drake is an investigator, and is used to seeing ghosts and sending them on to where they should be. But New Orleans is unlike any city he has been to. There are so many ghosts and lots of the living seem to be able to see them.
This is a historical, paranormal romance, and is the second in a series. You can quite easily read it as a stand alone. There are lots of laughs along with the danger to our heroine. You can only imagine the ghostly personalities we meet. Pirates, soldiers and even THE voodoo queen. Which ones are good guys and which are just out to protect their own secrets. Who is holding Christine's father and why.?  Can she trust this brash Yank?
Really good fun,  with marvellous characters.

Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders.

She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean--and she's got an active imagination. Truth is--she's an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.

In addition to mysteries, Julie writes historical, romantic suspense. Her first romance, A Haunting Desire, was a finalist in the 2014 Golden Heart® contest and is available now
