This book is part of the "Others of Edenton" series, and while it can easily be read as a stand alone, there is a connecting story line that is better read in order.
Emily is a mage and a healer. She was badly abused by her twin brother for years. It has left her timid of all physical contact with men. Her work in the medical clinic means she has to heal anyone that needs it.
Clint was wounded a while ago, but has refused to have Emily use magic to heal him. She thinks it's because he doesn't trust her, but he just wants an excuse to keep seeing her. Clint is a wolf that has a traumatic past. He doesn't trust himself to have a relationship with anyone.
When Clint's past comes back to cause problems in Edenton the whole community come together to help. So many damaged wolves are affected by the Alpha who tortured Clint, someone needs to take him down.
An emotional story of two people trying to reclaim their lives after suffering tremendous abuse. Our hero needs to learn how to forgive himself, and trust others to protect themselves and him. Our heroine needs to learn she is a lot stronger than she ever believed.
I have read most of the books in this series. They are all very different, but equally entertaining. The town of Edenton has just about every type of supernatural you can think of, all living in peace.
