A Knight´s Quest."Falling for a Knight #1" by Lana Williams. ARC Review.

Lady Sophia struggles to gather the pieces of her life after the devastating attack on Berwick, Scotland, that tore her world apart. Now head of her family, she does all she can to keep them safe and help the people of her city regain what they lost. The arrival of an English knight raises her distrust, especially when he suspects her of stirring unrest.

Sir Garrick de Bremont’s secret mission in Berwick is to seek out signs of discord. His quest should be simple, yet nothing comes easily in this troubled city where no one is who they seem. The English are not welcome here, especially English knights, who laid siege to the city and killed thousands.

Sophia has no reason to trust this man but her attraction to him is undeniable. When he helps protect her, she realizes this is a knight like no other. Though he is English and she is firmly on the other side of the border, he makes her long for things that cannot be.

Rebellion brews in this bustling market city. Can Garrick uncover the cause before he and Sophia lose not only their love but their lives?

Being a spy is difficult in the best of times, but in the reign of Edward the first it is extremely dangerous.  Sir Carrick has been tasked with finding out who is stirring up rebellion in the city of Berwick. Edward has  punished the city a short time  before he doesn't want to have repeat it.
Sophia is the eldest sister of the defeated Lord William,  who is being held by Edward. No longer living at the castle, Sophia and her family must struggle with the remaining residents to make a living. She has a talent as a broker. Finding buyers for other peoples wares and taking goods for her payment. She is doing her best to help as many in the city as she can. Even the ones who blame her family for the terror they suffered.
This is a good medieval romance, with lots of political intrigue. Danger is round every corner. Hardship is a way of life for the people in a defeated city. Our hero has lots of secrets to keep. Some personal and some for his quest. Our heroine is trying to carry too much responsibility for any one woman.
A very enjoyable trip into a harsh historical time.
