This is a good medieval romance, with lots of political intrigue. Danger is round every corner. Hardship is a way of life for the people in a defeated city. Our hero has lots of secrets to keep. Some personal and some for his quest. Our heroine is trying to carry too much responsibility for any one woman.
A very enjoyable trip into a harsh historical time.
