Deceiving an Earl by Sharon Cullen. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Oliver McCaron, Earl of Armbruster, is an influential, self-made man who lives life by his own rules. Though he’s never lacking for female attention, there’s only one woman he wants. And she’s the one woman who won’t have him…again.

Widow Lady Fieldhurst has spent the last seventeen years avoiding Oliver, after one glorious night together. Her parents had already planned out her life - she was never to become Oliver’s wife, despite their plans to run away. To protect their secret, she had to follow their wishes and marry the elderly earl they had chosen.

Now Ellen’s world is threatened by a blackmailer who threatens to expose everything. Now she’ll have to face the only man she’s ever loved and ask for help. Because if the truth comes to light, it could ruin more than one life...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oliver McCaron,  the Earl of Armbruster has recently been working with Scotland Yard.  He and another friend helped to capture killers.  This time the investigation doesn't seem to be as dangerous or as interesting.  Just find out information on a certain man.  His problem is that it puts him in contact with the one woman he can never forget.
Widowed Lady Ellen Fieldhurst is settled in her life now.  Her husband died a few years ago,  her teen-age son has since been a little unruly.  But hopefully that will change.  The only slight thorn in her side is a perfectly respectable surgeon who has attached himself to her.
This story has a lot of surprises in store for our wonderful characters and us.  There are murders happening in the EastEnd of London,  unusual ones.  There is a huge secret that could quite easily destroy several lives.
A fascinating Victorian historical romance with lots happening all the way through.  I loved every page.

Add To

Jacob Ashland’s life has taken an unexpected turn. He’s now the Earl of Ashland and expected to marry. But he’s done that before and had his heart ripped from his chest. When Charlotte shows up at his door needing protection, he offers to marry her––in name-only.

Charlotte, an orphan, suspects her sinister cousin of terrorizing London. When her maid disappears, she fears for her own life and runs away. Lord Ashland offers marriage, and it’s the perfect solution. But it isn’t long before she finds herself falling for her new husband.

Unfortunately, he won’t allow himself to love anyone ever again. And she knows her dark secret could destroy everything.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jacob Baker has just unexpectedly inherited the title of Earl of Ashland.  He was quite settled in his life as a young widower,  who sometimes, along  with a friend, helps the police with investigations. He has always worked as a solicitor.
When a woman who he takes an instant dislike to asks for his help in finding her niece,  he makes his own inquiries.
Miss Charlotte Morris has run away from her guardian because she is in fear for her life.  When there are several murders in the area she can't help but feel,  it's her fault.
A very different type of Victorian romance.  It has lots of great characters who face big changes in their lives.  There is also a serial killer on the loose.  Is it who our heroine suspects??
I thoroughly enjoyed this unusual historical romance.
Great fun.

Wed To A Spy (All The Queen´s Spies) by Sharon Cullen. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Blistering seduction meets international intrigue in the Highlands as a veteran spy infiltrates the court of Mary, Queen of Scots. There he matches wits against a tantalizing enemy: his new wife.

Simon Marcheford wants nothing more than to settle down on the land bestowed upon him by the English crown. Queen Elizabeth, however, is not about to let her best spy retire so easily. Simon will have his reward, she decrees, after he completes one last mission in Scotland. But no sooner has he sussed out a diabolical plot up North than Queen Mary weds him to her cousin—an exquisite beauty with troubled, soulful eyes—and orders Simon to watch her every move.

Aimee de Verris is no spy. But her life may depend on becoming one. Banished from the French court by Catherine de Medici, Aimee finds herself tasked with reporting on Queen Mary’s activities in Scotland, where she’s unnerved by the frigid weather and brutish customs. Worst of all, Aimee’s been married off to a most uncouth lout. But when murder strikes, she learns to appreciate Simon’s talent for shielding her with every inch of his muscular frame. If Aimee desires her husband, perhaps she could trust him—or even love him.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Sir Simon Marcheford is one of Queen Elizabeth's most trusted spies,  but he wants nothing more than to retire to his estate with his little sister.  Elizabeth however has other ideas.  Refusing his queen is too dangerous to consider.
Aimee de Verris has lived most of her life at the French court.  When she is caught in an indiscretion and sent away she is devastated.  What she is sent to do could easily cost her her life.
The Scottish court of Mary, Queen of Scots is rife with schemes and political intrigue.  A very dangerous place, especially for those with an ulterior motive for being there.
An exciting adventure in a political minefield.  Our hero is brave and honorable (for a spy). Our heroine is a confused innocent, in way out of her depth.
The story is fascinating and will keep you turning the pages until the end.
A thoroughly enjoyable book.

Campbell´s Redemption (Highland Pride #3) by Sharon Cullen. Release & ARC review.

Add To

Seduction betrays two Scottish patriots in Sharon Cullen’s sweeping Highland Pride romance—sure to thrill readers of Maya Banks and Monica McCarty—as a widowed young healer teaches a stubborn chieftain to trust his heart.

Like his ancestors, Iain Campbell, the Marquess of Kerr, swears loyalty to whichever government happens to be in power. Privately, however, he despises the British for the slaughter following the Battle of Culloden and finds himself playing a dangerous game of deception. When he defends a fellow Scot under cloak of darkness, Iain is wounded and must put his life in the hands of a mysterious healer. The prickly, bewitching woman saves him with her touch, though she denies Iain the pleasure of a smile from her sensuous lips—which only makes him want her all the more.

Cait Campbell has no fondness for the marquess and his political machinations. Now he makes a treacherous patient, since Cait is harboring Jacobite fugitives in her cellar. But with Iain confined to bed rest, Cait sees another side of the fierce warrior. How can she hate a man whose eyes sparkle in candlelight, a man whose voice stirs her soul? She soon discovers that he loves the Scottish people deeply—and, despite her painful intuitions, Cait is tempted to let Iain love her, too.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Widow Cait Campbell is a healer.  She helps any that come to her cottage,  be they Scottish rebels on the run or the hated English soldiers. She lives alone on the border between the Campbell and Sutherland lands.  Since the deaths of her husband and daughter the only purpose to her life is helping others.
Laird Iain Campbell is the probably one of the most disliked Scotsmen around.  He is known as a friend to the English.  What many don't know is the secret ways he helps the Scots.
This is set just a few months after the battle at Culloden , while tempers are high and fugitives are on the run.  It is a very emotional story that you can't help but get drawn into.  Plenty of action, intrigue,  danger and a good spicy romance.
This is the third book in a series but easily read as a stand alone.  A very enjoyable read.

MacLean´s Passion, (Highland Pride #2) by Sharon Cullen. ARC Review.

Perfect for fans of Maya Banks and Monica McCarty, Sharon Cullen’s Highland Pride series continues as Scotland’s most reckless smuggler meets his match in a beautiful spitfire who arouses a renewed sense of duty, camaraderie, and passion.

Colin MacLean has always felt like a black sheep—especially after his brothers are slain before his eyes in the Battle of Culloden. A smuggler by trade, Colin makes for an embarrassing chieftain. He can’t even save his friends from their British pursuers without getting himself captured. But before he is martyred by the hangman’s noose, Colin escapes with his cellmate, a brave lad he’s come to admire. It’s only in the depths of the Highlands that Colin discovers the lad is a lass—and a bonnie one at that.

Raised by her older brothers, Maggie Sinclair can drink a pint in no time flat and wield a dagger with the best of ’em. Still, men have always excluded her and women have always shunned her. Colin makes her feel different. His wild spirit and rugged good looks have Maggie reconsidering her less than ladylike ways. For the first time, she’s tempted to put on a gown, just to see how Colin would react. She can only imagine what might happen next: a kiss . . . a touch . . . and perhaps enough sultry heat to melt a cold Highland night.

Colin MacLean is waiting to die. If he is not hanged then the sickness he has will surely kill him off. He is a prisoner of the English and they have been torturing him endlessly.  When someone offers to help him escape he suspects a trap, but needs to take the chance. The quiet young lad he has been sharing a cell with must come with him.
Maggie Sinclair has been a prisoner since she was caught fighting at Culloden  . She is just thankful no one has discovered her sex yet.
Our hero is suffering from a total lack of self confidence. He lost his much worthier elder brothers in the battle. He is not fit to take over the clan. Our heroine has trained and fought like a lad all her life . Now her brother expects her to suddenly turn into a lady and marry. That's not going to happen.
A harrowing journey through the highlands,  with enemies behind and an uncertain future ahead. A story that will make you laugh, cry and cheer for our wonderful heroine.  It is the second in a series but you can read it on it's own. I loved it.

Sutherlands Secret. ( A Highland Pride Novel) by Sharon Cullen ARC Review.

If you love Maya Banks and Monica McCarty, don’t miss Sharon Cullen’s captivating Highland Pride novels! Sutherland’s Secret kicks off a series that’s overflowing with mouthwatering Scottish warriors, captivating history, and forbidden desire.

Terror reigns in the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden. As British troops obliterate the last traces of the Jacobite cause, Brice Sutherland, the Earl of Dornach, risks everything to arrange a covert escape route to Canada for his fellow Scots. But when he encounters a dying Englishwoman, hauntingly beautiful though scarred by manacles and unable to speak, Brice’s true courage is put to the test. Nothing but ruin could result from helping her, or worse: falling in love.

The pampered daughter of a marquess, Eleanor Hirst was the talk of the London season when she wed the Earl of Glendale. Little did she know that his posting as an officer in Scotland would be their undoing. Now her husband is dead and Eleanor is a fugitive in a hostile country. Desperate for help, she throws herself on the mercy of Brice Sutherland, a handsome Scottish warrior who should be her enemy. Instead, he cares for her tenderly, reviving her shattered spirit—and awakening urges unlike any she’s ever known.

Brice Sutherland is a highland chieftain on his way home after a meeting with other clan chiefs. Since the massacre at Culloden everyone is on edge and distrustful. What he finds laying on the path will change his and his clan's lives. No Highlander is safe from the army of English soldiers that roam Scotland trying to root out the Jacobites.
Eleanor Hirst is English, but she is in  as much, if not more danger from the English Colonel in charge of the garrison than any Scot.
This is set in a very difficult period in Scottish history. Our hero is doing his best to save his countrymen .He takes on something that could put his whole clan at risk.  The danger and adventure are the biggest part of this story. The romance is inevitable.  Our heroine turns out to be stronger than a lot of the men in the book.
A very hard book to put down. I know this particular story is fiction, but it must be so close to what happened in that very dark time in British history.  I enjoyed this immensely.
