The Devil's Own (The Wicked Wayward’s #1) by Liana LeFey. Historical Romance Release & ARC Review.

Add To

Lord Devlin Wayward, gambler and dedicated rake, returns home for the first time in years, and lands himself and his identical twin, Daniel, the good reverend, in deep trouble. Devlin ends up with a broken leg and unable to travel to London, yet he must return. He’s got an important deal that will make or break his fortune. He persuades the reluctant reverend to take his place in London while he temporarily minds his brother’s flock.

Miss Mary Tomblin is taken with the devastatingly handsome reverend. He represents everything she desires in a husband, after narrowly evading a ruthless rake last Season. Mary knows she'll make him an excellent wife, but the vicar rebuffs every advance – until he suddenly accepts her help with pastoral duties while his broken leg heals. Mary seizes the chance to show the good reverend what an excellent helpmeet she will be.

The devil takes on the role of village vicar and discovers it's nowhere near as easy as he imagined—especially when he falls in love with an angel who mistakes him for a saint.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lord Devlin Wayward is going home for Christmas.  He's happy to leave London for a short while to get away from a woman,  but must return quickly.  His twin brother is a vicar but also has a problem woman.  Devlin takes the opportunity to help his brother.  This has very unexpected results.
Miss Mary Tomblin has travelled to lots of places because of her father's work.  She really wants to settle in a home of her own,  preferably as the wife of the handsome vicar.  She is one determined woman.  She also has a lot to learn.
This is a really fun story.  Our devilish hero doesn't know how to solve the problem he started,  it just gets bigger and bigger. There are lots of twists and turns and more than a few tears.
I loved all the characters and can't wait to read the next book.
Great fun.

Jacqueline Trouvere is the headmistress of a girls school.  All of her girls are orphans or abandoned and they have all come from a world that no little girl should know exists.  She is determined to help these children recover and make better lives for themselves.
William Woodson is a police officer who is working undercover to find a murderer and someone who is trafficking children for sex. The job as a teacher for the school is his assignment.
This is a very emotional historical romance and deals with an upsetting topic.  Nearly all our characters are physically and mentally scared,  but that has only made them stronger.  When the danger starts they find out just how necessary that is.
This is part of a series but easily read as a stand alone.  A very enjoyable and thought provoking story.  I loved it.

A deep curiosity to know all of him welled inside of her. “Don’t you ever play?”
Surprised chased his features. “Play?”
“Yes...you know, the art of romping, laughing, and having untold fun?”
“Of course not,” he said stiffly.
“How sad,” she murmured.
He arched a brow. “I am a duke...we do not cavort in the dirt and grass.”
She stood and walked deeper into the shadows and smiled when he followed.
“That is a pity. I think I would enjoy very much you tumbling me into the grass.”
Intense dark eyes assessed her and Adel stepped closer to his heat. “Come play with me,” she said softly.

What people are saying…

“…gives you warm fuzzies and leaves you feeling contented.” –Meghan L., Goodreads

“…very distinctive…the romance is absolutely lovely!” –Monique, Goodreads

Excerpt:

Misha watched as she leaned low over her mare’s neck and gave the horse free rein. He let out a whoop and took off after her, his much larger mount rapidly gaining ground. He had closed the distance to about ten feet when a fox, perhaps roused by the vibration of the horse’s hooves against the ground, dashed out of the bushes. His stallion barely glanced at the disturbance, but Anna’s horse shied away. She tilted to the right, and before she could regain her balance, her mare kicked at the fox, sending her hurtling to the left. His heart lurched, knowing he would not reach her in time to help.

Author Bio:

Ally has worked as a horse trainer, director of marketing and development, freelance proofreader, and a children's librarian, among other things. None of them were as awesome as writing romance novels (though the librarian gig came closest). She lives in Texas and is convinced her house is shrinking, possibly because she shares it with three kids, five dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and assorted reptiles. Oh, and her husband.

Ally likes to curse in Russian because very few people know what she's saying, and spends most of what would be her spare time letting dogs in and out of the house and shuttling kids around. She has many stories in her head looking for an opportunity to escape onto paper. She writes historical romance set in Regency England and Imperial Russia.
