When convention clashes with love…

Eager to outshine her older sisters, Henrietta Maybury is disappointed to discover the first man to make her heart race is the scion of a banking family, and therefore quite ineligible as a husband to a viscount’s daughter.

But as it turns out, Captain Sydney Cromarty is even less marriageable than she first imagined. For beneath his respectable facade, he’s a notorious smuggler – as Henrietta discovers during a reckless evening at the Hart Inn. And the more she learns, the more he fascinates her.

As Henrietta begins to doubt her values, Cromarty is forced to reassess his own. No one is more amused than he to discover he is now the Earl of Silford’s heir, a position he has no intention of embracing, but it becomes a situation that makes him dangerous enemies who are not above using his growing feelings for the charming Henrietta to destroy him.

Will he accept his patrimony as a means to win Henrietta, or will they both succumb to the threats that surround them?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just a little while ago Miss Henrietta Maybury was excited about having a season in London.  Now however she finds the whole idea of trying to catch a husband this way distasteful.  Since her sister married a Duke her family no longer needs to repair their finances.  That doesn't stop them from pushing the most eligible bachelors in front of her.
Captain Sydney Cromarty is known along the coast as a smuggler,  but what most don't know is just what else he does.
His life is about to change drastically.  Just who is behind the trouble he faces???
Our adventurous but innocent heroine could find herself in trouble.
This is a fun historical romance from a series.  Each book can easily be read on it's own,  but as it follows a family the series is best read in order.
All the characters are great fun,  and the story will engage you from the beginning.

Mary Lancaster's first love was historical fiction. Since then she has grown to love coffee, chocolate, red wine and black and white films - simultaneously where possible. She hates housework.

As a direct consequence of the first love, she studied history at St. Andrews University, after which she worked variously as editorial assistant, researcher and librarian. Although she has always written stories for her own entertainment, she began to make serious efforts toward publication in order to distract herself from a job she disliked. She now writes full time at her seaside home in Scotland, which she shares with her husband and three children.
