Maggie thought she was married to an earl . . . but it seems that her late and unlamented husband lied to her from the day they met. Now—penniless and stranded in London—she has thrown herself  on the mercy of the real Lord Warwick. What's a counterfeit countess to do?

Edward, the Earl of Warwick, desires only to get rid of the beautiful woman who arrived at his house with no less than fourteen trunks, a younger sister, a maid, and a very large cat. Her preposterous explanation is of no importance—but her late husband held the clue to the identity of England's greatest traitor, a clue the Foreign Service must get at any cost. Edward will have to guard her night and day—but he cannot guard his heart.

Maggie, Lady Warwick has travelled from Virginia to London with her sister and a very fat cat, to claim her late husband's estate.
Edward the Earl of Warwick is awoken to female screeching in his town house.  The beautiful woman who's entourage has invaded his home is claiming to be the previous Earl's widow. He knows that is not possible.
Maggie finds out her husband was not who he claimed to be,. In fact he was a spy who only just escaped the hangman. Now for the sake of her sister she has to use her womanly wiles to stay long enough to find a new husband.
Edward works for the crown,  he must determine if the widow knows who her husband was working with. But that soon proves to be a dangerous assignment.

A lovely Regency romp. Lots of adventure,  humour and wonderful entertaining characters. Twists and turns and lots of suspects. Great fun.
