Solidify ( Willow Creek) by Alexia Purdy My Review.

Being a hero is overrated.

Malachi Arend is a brazen loner who wants nothing more than to get the hell out of the small town of Woodland Creek. As he’s leaving, he stumbles across a nurse named Phoebe Reynolds, a newly minted Caladrius shifter who takes the shape of a snow-white bird. She ignites something unexpected inside him, thwarting his attempt to leave.

When a vengeful spirit begins attacking the townspeople, Malachi and Phoebe are drawn into the fray. Phoebe’s transformation could be tied to the attacks, but whoever is responsible might also be seeking to finish what they started, and all of Woodland Creek may pay the price.

Malachi never wanted to be a hero, but it seems he doesn't have a choice.

Malachi has had enough of Woodland Creek.  The other shifters are always trying to involve him in something. He likes his solitary life.
Phoebe doesn't understand what has happened to her, or why it happened. She is apparently a shifter.  She had no idea there were such things. Now she needs to know what to do about it. Sprouting feathers when she gets angry can be upsetting.
They both have to find out who is turning shifters to stone and how to stop them. Our hero is not a nice man, but he is exactly what our heroine needs.
A short story from the multi author series of Woodland Creek. A fun read with very unusual shifters.

All About WOODLAND CREEK.

A collaborative, fictional collection of Shifter stories set in one town.

Woodland Creek, Indiana is a quaint college town full of old-world charm - with plenty to tantalize shifter, wizard, and human residents alike. Your days will be filled with the indulgent pleasures of our popular downtown, with your nights rejuvenated by the sporadic screams of the damned. Here in Woodland Creek, the supernatural townsfolk protect their secrets with firepower, claws, or spells. And the humans live mostly oblivious (unless they're eaten).

Welcome to Woodland Creek.
Our fair town.
Please visit the picturesque forest! The locals in the woods enjoy the occasional lost soul. Just make sure to bring a shovel--our tools disappear far too often.
We hope you have a wonderful stay!
