The Rover Betrayed. by Anna Markland. A.R.C. Review.

Heir to his father's lands and titles, a recently widowed Magnus is obliged to leave his grieving young daughters to join the fight against Flemish incursions into Norman territory. He captures Judith, a Flemish noblewoman and soon loses his heart. But she is the sister of his sworn enemy. Can he trust her not to betray him and his country?

MY REVIEW:

I was lucky enough to receive an A.R.C. of this ,but that does not colour my review in any way.
★★★★★
The third in the Rover series.
Judith is the half sister to a powerful Frankish noble. Her brother has arranged a marriage for her. This is to help him keep the land he has conquered.  Her husband is not at all the type any woman would want. Her wedding day passes in a blur of rain ,mud and confusion.
Magnus  has just lost his wife to childbirth ,and his young daughters are struggling with their loss. He and his brothers have been called on to regain the lost lands in the name of Vilhelm Longsword. When the battle is over Judith is a hostage.
This is another fascinating tale rich in historic detail.  The pictures our author paints of the everyday lives in medieval times are so vivid. We get a lot  of adventure along with a beautiful love story. A wonderful sexy hero and a loveable heroine. This series gives us the roots to the Mountbryce Series. without spoiling them.

I would so love a glass of that apple brandy now.

I was born and educated in England, but I've lived most of my life in Canada. I was an educator for 25 years. It was a rewarding career, financially, spiritually and emotionally.
After that I worked with my husband in the management of his businesses. He's a born entrepreneur who likes to boast he's never had a job!
My final "career" was as Director of Administration of a global disaster relief organization.
I then embarked upon writing a romance, essentially for my own satisfaction. I chose the medieval period mainly because that genre of historical romance is one I enjoy reading.
I have a keen interest in genealogy. This hobby has had a tremendous influence on my stories. My medieval romances are about family honor, ancestry, and roots. As an amateur genealogist, I cherished a dream (as do many) of tracing my own English roots back to the Norman Conquest--an impossibility since I am not descended from nobility! So I made up a family and my stories follow its members through successive generations.
One of the things I enjoy most about writing historical romance is the in-depth research necessary to provide readers with an authentic medieval experience. I based the plot of my first novel, Conquering Passion, on an incident that actually happened to a Norman noblewoman.
I hope you come to know and love my Montbryce family as much as I do.
